onlinepersona , in [question] shadow of the tomb raider, native or proton-experimental

There’s a native linux version? From a major publisher? 😮 Damn, wasn’t expecting that.

stargazingpenguin , in [question] shadow of the tomb raider, native or proton-experimental

I would just use Proton at this point. I haven’t tried Shadow on Proton, but for Rise it worked a lot better than on native unfortunately.

Bero , in [question] shadow of the tomb raider, native or proton-experimental

AFAIK Ferals ports just use a different translation Layer.
And all of the Tomb Raider games should run better through proton.

Runs fine on Proton for me.

Check if your machine can run it at a good framerate, if it does, then there’s no reason to bother acquiring it elsewhere, right?

yo_scottie_oh , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

Take it out and blow on it.

Sunny OP ,

Damn this got me laughing a lot 😅

BradleyUffner , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

Ohh wow. I just thought this was some new game intro thing. Had no idea it wasn’t supposed to do that.

Burghler , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

I’ve noticed this with Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader too. And with dragons dogma like you have, thought it was just a me problem… Good to know!

Jontique , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

Missing codecs, try running with Proton-GE

emilmuzz ,
@emilmuzz@lemmy.world avatar

Seconding this advice. Install ProtonUp-Qt, run it and add the latest Proton-GE version. Restart Steam and change game compatibilty settings to use use Proton-GE.

Sunny OP ,

It was indeed this! Thanks :)

narc0tic_bird ,

Jup, this is it. Valve’s Proton doesn’t include some of the more exotic proprietary codecs like Bink and the likes.

ekky , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

I’ve observed this in VRising too. It’s been nearly consistent since I upgraded to a better graphics card.

Sunny OP ,

Proton-GE fixed it as pointed out in the comments!

ekky ,

Yup, that appears to have fixed the problem. Derp.

aBundleOfFerrets , in Why does this happen to some of my games?

Have you tried changing channel? Some consoles are on ch3 and some are on ch4

ivanafterall ,
@ivanafterall@kbin.social avatar

And make sure the channel on the TV is set to the the same one as the RF adapter.

Lojcs , in Released: NVIDIA 555.42.02 Linux Beta Brings Wayland Explicit Sync, GSP Firmware

Just installed this and (combined with xwayland 24.1) it fixes the grand majority of the xwayland issues. I assume they’ll be totally gone when the kwin version with explicit sync drops.

I’ve seen a 5% decrease in game performance and a game crashed on me for the first time in forever after installing it, so you might want to wait for stable though

Owljfien ,

Depending on your distro I think there is kwin patches in aur for the stuff that will be in 6.1

ConstantPain , in Released: NVIDIA 555.42.02 Linux Beta Brings Wayland Explicit Sync, GSP Firmware

What distro supports this and Plasma 6?

YaBoyMax ,

Apparently the version of Plasma that Fedora ships has the explicit sync patches backported from 6.1.

ConstantPain ,

I tried Fedora KDE 40, it was hell to install the Nvidia drivers and it freezes randomly and when I play the screen goes black after some minutes and I have to restart.

rustyredox ,

neon.kde.org ? Not sure if it’s received this patch yet, but it ships the latest version of KDE 6.

ConstantPain ,

Doesn’t support the Nvidia drivers, only Nouveau.

rustyredox ,

What? I’m using neon with Nvidia’s v550 driver right now. I’ll try switching switching to v555 driver as linked in OP via apt once it available through Nvidia’s (compatible) debian repos for Ubuntu.

ConstantPain ,

Will try. Thanks!

ConstantPain ,

Nvidia driver installed but how to make it use it?

fluckx , in How to run Black Desert Online on Linux

You can have lutris use proton rather than the lutris wine version though? It’s how I run battle.net on lutris.

If i take the default wine it gives me a load of **** with missing fonts and other errors. Running it with proton 8.0 just makes it work.

EuroNutellaMan OP ,
@EuroNutellaMan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah but I found it doesn’t work properly on lutris sometimes compared to just running it through steam with Proton experimental. Don’t know why that is though.

fluckx ,

Ah, I don’t think I’ve had that, but your YMMV I guess. Gaming on Linux has been pretty good to me since I started.

I’ll give this a shot if it starts acting up though!

kugmo , in Automatically turn off Plasma Desktop effects when launching a Steam game?
@kugmo@sh.itjust.works avatar

Autocomposer Kwin script

Doesn’t work on Plasma 6 yet, but there’s probably a way to auto convert qt5 to 6 with minimal problems.

michael_palmer , in Automatically turn off Plasma Desktop effects when launching a Steam game?

Lutris can execute scripts before launching game and after closing game. I use this to disable “win” key in games.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

You don’t want to win?

/s

fl_sp ,

Pretty sure “turn off desktop effects” is an actual option in lutris.
