i like my AMD ATI Radeon RX 5600. after I figured out it has a tiny tiny TINY hidden physical overclock switch they don't ever mention for some godforsaken reason (which is put "on" by default, also for some godforsaken reason) to turn off, it's the most stable graphics card i've ever used.
...i just recommend turning off the tiny evil hidden crash switch of doom.
amd in general is pretty chill on linux for a large portion of people.
I had a 1080 Ti, and while my issues weren’t as bad as what I see others face, my 6800XT has had absolutely zero issues whatsoever, I don’t even have to think about drivers at all, ever.
Both AMD and Nvidia GPUs work well. There is mainly a philosophy difference where AMD GPUs work particularly well with open source drivers whereas Nvidia still mostly depends on its proprietary drivers (though they work fine on Linux too).
Phoronix is a reputable website when it comes to benchmarking on Linux. Here is a previous benchmark with Nvidia GPUs, as an example:
Of note: when people complain about nvidia on Linux, you need to determine whether they complain about open source or proprietary drivers.
I have been running Nvidia GPUs on Linux for years and have had no issue with the proprietary drivers, both for an old and recent GPU. Of course YMMV.
Edit: my personal recommendation though would be to stick with AMD which offers more memory and bandwidth compared to similarly priced Nvidia GPUs (Nvidia uses 8GB for many of its GPUs which is quire disappointing these days). And with open source drivers it may be easier to get issues fixed and find support.
Which version of Bazzite are you on? Bluetooth has been having connectivity problems in the latest versions (a regression from the Bluez driver upstream, I believe).
I rebased my Steam Deck to 39-20240328, and everything seems to be working as expected. 39-20240414 might also be okay, but I haven’t tested it myself.
ETA: I haven’t been able to connect my primary BT headphones to my Deck, but my Steam Controller and a different pair of BT headphones are fine. Might be a similar case with you; I don’t know why one works but the other doesn’t.
Indeed loads of buetooth issues on their latest versions, I’ve rebased the system by a month before the issues started and will try to see if this has solved the issue. On the latest bazzite versions and couldnt even connect my PS5 controller, had to remove the device and completely re-pair the controllers each time I wanted to connect to the PC, which was highly incontinent… But! that issues is at least fixed on the older bazzite versions. Will see if the connectivity issues I’ve been having is present on the older bazzite versions tonight.
I used to have a hard mousepad, because I thought it was “cool”, but in retrospect it was basically no different than just using my desk would have been. They’re noisy, and 99% of them just give off edgy gamer vibes.
Cheap neoprene (or similar) mousepads are all about the same in terms of performance, but pricier ones typically look better and may last a little bit longer.
Its been about a year and I still love it, but I will note that I can see how the slightly rougher texture could be a turnoff for some people. They do have other options with different natural materials you may be interested in. IMO, all of their options look classy AF, and I like the use of more natural materials
wow wow wow! Seriously, thanks for sharing this one! These look like great quality and exactly the kind of pad I was looking for. Love the variety they have as well.
Artisan makes some quality deskpads if you are interested in spending a little extra. Otherwise a generic deskmat will do the trick and you won’t be too worried about dirtying it or ruining it.
Can’t say I’ve run into Linux oriented mouse/deskpads but it’s likely one search term away!
Check out Lethal Gaming Gear’s own in house imitations. I myself have their Saturn XL. It’s a nice feel to it, a little.bit squishy, 0 skin irritation, and the texture is fantastic for FPS shooters which is what I normally play. I forget which Artisan it’s supposed to mimic, though.
