My input isn’t going to be very useful but as a point of data, I’ve never had trouble with my 8bitdo controllers and Linux.
Sometimes they don’t pair right away on the Switch, but Linux has been fine.
Now I’m trying to remember which controller I used to test Yuzu…
Weird as it is, I’ve heard launching games through Steam Big Picture mode with the controller connected can help but that might just be more a key mapping thing than anything else.
When I was doing some research on this, I saw most guides suggest installing various xbox controller driver shims. I can easily imagine the steam controller mapping fulfilling the same role.
But yeah. I have an ultimate whatever the hell (the xbox-like with hall effect sticks) that I connect with the dongle and no issues in Ubuntu. Never tried to pair with my linux PC using bluetooth. Only issue I have is that getting the various 8bitdo software suites running in wine is a bit of a headache but there is a phone app that works more than well enough.
It used to have some issues with the launcher, forever ago, but I’ve been playing it for a long time now, and it’s working excellently. No issues with the game, or an addon like arcdps, although if you need Blish, it’s still in very early stages of the port
Try running bluetoothctl from the commandline and playing around with it. This article is for Gentoo but you can go through the manual steps in “Device pairing” and maybe you’ll be able to identify the issue.
Looking at bluetooth logs could also be useful. If the service is called bluetooth on Mint, try running:
<span style="color:#323232;">journalctl -u bluetooth
</span>
I’d recommend Borderlands 2. It runs beautifully even on Intel HD4000 and it’s less than $5 on sale. It’s much better with friends, but I’ve enjoyed most of it by myself and absolutely love it.
You may also try Hero’s hour and Death road to Canada.
Fairly easy. I found a guy with a huge sword and good melee weapons. I was able to smash everything and save enough ammo to just shoot my way through the last hoards.
Be aware on kde with wayland that ps2 doesnt play nice with open windows in the background, for me anyway. I have to minimize anything else i might have open or suffer stuttering and frame drops.
Not a Linux user but I had a lot of problems with the sn30 pro plus connecting to bluetooth when I first got it. The issue was something in the controller bios. It’d cause my entire system to spaz out. I had to roll back to the first version to fix it. So maybe try messing around with bios versions if you can to see if that fixes it.
Very, but you’ll need a windows environment to do it. They only have windows or mac updaters. After that, it’s just plugging it in and picking the version. Looks like there’s only 2 updates, but it’s still worth a shot.
Already did that to no avail. It seems like no matter what I do, this is what I’m doomed to. I’ll have to check out the BIOS/firmware for the controllers like the other person suggested.
And Guild Wars 2 is nowadays also on Steam, making it even easier to get into it. Note for anyone who previously played GW2 before it came to Steam: You can also use the Steam version if you add “-provider Portal” as a launch parameter.
I’m assuming you’ve already verified that other bluetooth devices work as expected.
A different distro (e.g. Debian Stable) might help narrow down the problem, as their kernels tend to be built with different options and their packages sometimes have different default configurations. Be sure to look for helpful messages in dmesg and syslog/journalctl.
After that, the next thing I would try is a USB bluetooth dongle. Some bluetooth modules don’t work well with Sony’s controllers, and it’s possible that the one on your motherboard is among them.
Are you trying to pair the controller while you have a pair of Bluetooth headphones already actively connected? The reason why I ask is because I’ve ran into issues with the AX200 when attempting to use both at the same time. Either the Dualsense would stop working or it would kick my headphones into the lower bandwidth HSP mode. I ended up having to use a separate USB bluetooth dongle just to get the two to play together nicely.
I’m going to say this again, as I have for so many other people having issues with F38:
FEDORA 38 IS TERRIBLE FOR GAMING
Switch to a different distro that is much better suited for gaming. Ubuntu, Mint, PopOS, SteamOS, Manjaro…just not F38. There are so many complaints, it’s time to just ditch it.
This is literally the only issue I have. All games run fine for me without issues. I only borrowed the controller to try it so that I know if I should buy it or not. So far I don’t really like it much over my Steam Controller. I just wanted to play over Bluetooth and it does not work, cable works fine but it’s just too short so I have to sit next to my case and look at a monitor from an angle. It’s not a BT issue as well since othr BT devices like my SONY WH-1000XM3 headphones work just fine.
I've had success running EVE Online on Linux before. There was an unofficial Linux client from a staff but I'm not too sure the current state of it since I haven't played it for awhile now. It has a Gold rating on ProtonDB.
Old Republic is still a great game. You can tell the jump in graphics from the original game to the expansions, but it still holds up. It also runs pretty great on Proton, and the launcher was moved to Steam. And it's free.
I recommend people try it and if they like it, just pay the subscription, for at least a month. Even if you cancel after a month, paying for a month gets you access to the expansions. When I'm actively playing it I happily pay the subscription, it's a big quality of life boost.
For what it’s worth, same issue happens to me on Kinoite as well. On an AMD board. With AMD 6E/Bluetooth.
My wi-fi works fine and my Bluetooth works fine for audio/headphones so I hadn’t realized it was an issue until I got a new dualsense on sale a few weeks back and have been playing corded this entire time 😅
