Recently I’ve gave up Windows for Linux and installed Ubuntu with KDE Plasma desktop on my pc and laptop from 2007. It’s an i7 Intel processor with 8gb ddr ram so I thought it would be fine, but it seems quite sluggish. What distro could I use that would be faster and still fully functional? Thanks for your help in advance.

As many already know, nvidia is not the best choice for linux and amd is always recommend when it is brought up, so here id like to ask an equivalent to my graphics card in amd, i know nothing about amd and dont really know where to start honestly....

Hi all, I’m switching motherboards. No dGPU. Going from an Intel MB to an AMD one. I have my root partition on an nvme and the home one on a 2.5" sata. Do I need to reinstall, or can I just move the drives from the old MB to the new one without a problem? Figured since both Intel and AMD drivers are both baked into the kernel...

so my old GPU died a few days ago and I was thinking which brand of GPU to get next. AMD or Nvidia? I’ve heard Nvidia drivers are very annoying with Linux but I’ve never had an AMD GPU before. Which would be better? I’ll sometimee switch to Windows to play specific games as well.

My nearest way is using my steam controller but isn’t comfy to navigate Netflix or other streaming websites.

I never imagined I’d like playing Tetris on the command line, on a terminal on my phone (termux), but here I am!...

What do you use to send and receive SMS on your computer? I’ve tried KDE Connect but found it too buggy to use daily.

Something like a thermostat or a smart fridge – have you seen any? If so, please share with a video or two.

When trying to install games on an ext4 external drive I get a disk write error from steam. Whenever I reset the permissions on the drive to both read and write, not just read, steam immediately reverts that whenever it’s opened.

Not that it’s bad. For me, it’s actually very useful, I just find it mildly amusing that an app for managing AppImages is packaged as a Flatpak, despite the two formats being widely known as competitors*....

I have a nice bash alias for tmux which opens a new window and directly ssh to whatever I specify...

I have read many conflicting things, like always. Just wondering if there’s a safe way to use several DE’s on one distro without messing up my damn computer lol I’ve tried it several times and it always messed things up. I’m currently brand new to fedora workstation 38 too btw. Thanks alot

I recently installed Linux Mint Cinammon on an old laptop to try it out. The Title bar on windows is too tall for me preferences. I poked around in settings but couldn’t find a way to make the title bar shorter. Is this not possible or is there some CLI-fu config to force it?
