Fedora KDE suddenly wont boot properly

I am running Fedora KDE 40 alongside Windows 11 23H2, (the PC in question is also sometimes used by a few other family members, which is the reason I still have Windows) When I tried restarting into Fedora today, everything appeared fine, I selected the normal boot fedora option in GRUB, and the normal loading screen showed up....

Successful move over after years of trial and error

Finally got tired of my Windows 11 install, and I considered a Linux move. For years and years, I tried to move over, even all the way back in the Ubuntu 16.04 days, even daily drove for a few months, but there would always be something that would make me move back (including but not limited to HDR, support for my old iPod,...

Anyone have experience with StableDiffusion on Linux with AMD and NVIDIA?

Should I struggle through constant crashes to get my 7900gre with 16gb of vram working, possibly through the headache of ONNX? Can anyone report their own success or offer advice? AMD on linux is generally lovely, SD with AMD on linux, not so much. It was much better with my RTX2080 on linux but gaming was horrible with NVIDIA...

Clipboard Copy Paste History Function I Accidentally Encountered with Fcitx

Some Lemmy user at one point had asked about a “multi-paste” feature, if there was a way to use keyboard shortcuts to display multiple clipboard items and copy/paste them out at will (this user mentioned similar to RTS games they like to play). If someone can find that post, can you notify them and direct them here, please?...

How do you use Wine/Proton? Italian

One of the biggest things holding me back from jumping definitively on Linux is possibly getting rid of the apps/games i’m comfortable with and know well. How do you exaclty use Wine/Proton? You install it, launch the app with it and pray it works? Are there ways to know what is not working and possibly try to fix them...

How can I organize my ebook collection without file duplication?

I am seeking advice regarding my ebook collection on a Linux system, which is stored on an external drive and sorted into categories. However, there are still many unsorted ebooks. I have tried using Calibre for organization, but it creates duplicate files during import on my main drive where I don’t want to keep any media. I...

If you have installed Linux on a Microsoft Surface Pro, what was your experience?

I’m looking for a cheap and portable tablet that I can use for writing. Microsoft Surface Pro tablets, at least around the gen 4 models, are rather cheap to buy used, and they seem decently well made. Naturally, were I to buy one, I would have to install Linux onto it....

[Solved with Gluetun] Tailscale ExitNode with VPN

I would really really really like to have one device on my tailnet as the exitnode for all other devices on the tailnet. However, most VPNs make this really difficult. Is there any way to do this? I’ve read it’s possible with split-tunnelling, but ProtonVPN (which I use) doesn’t support that. I just installed Alpine Linux...

Networking Novice: Setting up VM - How can I bind it to a VPN?

I am trying to create a KVM/QEMU/Virt-Manager VM without exposing my IP/internet connection to it. I pay for a VPN subscription, and I typically access it through wireguard configs that integrate with my distro (Fedora 40 Workstation) and DE VPN menus. From my understanding, as I have them set up now, I can enable one of these...

PSA: How to install Brother HL-L5210DW printer under Fedora 40 using IPP-over-USB

I just want to share my notes for installing a Brother HL-L5210DW(T) printer via USB under Fedora Atomic 40 (Kinoite), in case it helps anyone else. This may work for other similar models too. I’ve included some background info at bottom if you’re interested....
