Anything to avoid Reno.

PanoptiDon ,

Or Nevada

TheSambassador ,

Reno is an awesome town now, you should check it out.

lightnsfw , in Thanks, Apple

A couple weeks ago I had to travel for work and I picked the longer one because I got paid for more miles and it meant I would get back right at the end of the day so I wouldn’t have to do anything else that afternoon. Also on that 2 hour drive I think I saw 5-6 cars for the first 3/4 of it which was pretty great.

consumptionone ,

I’m surprised that works. At my job they make us put in the origin and destination and will only pay the mileage for the shortest route.

jj4211 ,

I’m guessing they have a job like mine, where a driving trip is a relatively rare occurrence and micromanaging the travel isn’t worth it to mitigate the risk of paying out a little more.

Melvin_Ferd , in Ironing

I iron like a mother fucker. Its so satisfying smoothing everything out.

Fuck you wrinkles

Opisek ,

The beauty industry hates this one trick to stop skin from aging.

Fosheze ,

You joke but my dad once fell face first into a bonfire and blistered most of his face. When the skin grew back his dermatologist told him that a lot of people would kill for a skin treatment as good as what he wound up with. He was almost entirely blemish and wrinkle free when he healed.

You could probably manage the same with enough hot steam from an iron but it may take a bit longer.

threelonmusketeers ,

my dad once fell face first into a bonfire

Ouch! How does one manage to… do that?

Fosheze ,

He tripped on a branch while burning brush and he has MS so the fall was the opposite of controlled or graceful.

threelonmusketeers ,

Yikes! Neurodegenerative diseases are no joke!

nickwitha_k ,

Fuck yes it is. I think I’ve ironed more this century than my Boomer mother. And none of it was out of necessity.

After working as a farm hand one summer, it was like a switch flipped in my head and I really started to like button-ups and the like. Probably something along the lines of “this clothing is completely different from my work clothing and doesn’t have animal shit on it”.

No-iron shirts and slacks are still the way to go but, getting those wrinkles that escape is just so satisfying.

All my clothes have creases on them. I do not care unless it actually ruins the look. Only then do I use the iron.

evlogii , in Can't get that metallic taste out of my mouth

They don’t. Piercing jewelry is usually made from robust materials that are inert in normal conditions, like stainless steel, gold, plastics, and sometimes glass or gemstones. So, no, you don’t taste anything, just as you don’t taste a plastic cup, ceramic mug, or stainless steel pot.

No_Eponym ,

saigot ,

I think they might be talking about the taste of blood of a fresh or infected piercing. Blood tastes like keys.

banana_lama ,

That should’ve healed by then though

joe_cool ,

So does every cut on any other body part.
Weirdly enough other people’s blood tastes slightly different than my own.

Nfamwap ,

A cup of tea tastes completely different out of a ceramic mug, than it does a plastic one.

coriza ,

Are you heating your plastic piercings?

humorlessrepost ,

general_kitten ,

The thing is that some metal ions can catalyse oils of the skin into compounds that are what causes the metallic taste

Don’t ya think?

whereBeWaldo , in Dark art drawn from nightmares I’ve experienced

Do ya’ll really have “normal” nightmares like this where there is something to be scared of? I swear in all my nightmares I am just scared by default but when I think about it afterwards there is nothing to be scared of in the nightmare.

eezeebee ,
@eezeebee@lemmy.ca avatar

Yes, and those are the most normal ones tbh.

These people are documenting the history of an important part of our infrastructure. One video from a channel in this community documented a 1970s home security system as he was contracted to remove it. It’s super fascinating learning how these things function and watching them be tested. Such content can also help a person get over fear of alarms!

The video: youtu.be/mwAFN1aSFjY

MindTraveller ,

I fear alarms because they hurt. It’s not like Spiders where learning more helps. I’ve been hurt by alarms hundreds of times in my life. Learning more isn’t going to help me fear them less.

daltotron ,

How are you hurt by alarms? Noise, high voltage, the fear of the things they indicate, or something else? legitimately curious, never heard of this phobia before

MindTraveller ,

Autism. Too loud. Hurts. I’m very slow to evacuate because I always need to take the time to put in my nose cancelling earbuds so I can evacuate safely. If the alarm were quieter, it wouldn’t hurt as much

Sneptaur ,
