(EU) SUVs. Are you insecure and too stupid to drive? GET A CAR 20% larger in every dimension so you can piss off the whole world with your incompetence.
Or do you have a genuine reason that makes them advantageous?
I have an SUV because:
my mother in law has mobility issues and struggles to get in/out of a saloon.
my wife has neck issues and the higher driving position is better for her
I like it (ok, that could make me an arsehole)
Truth is that mine (BMW X1) is at most 5cm bigger in any dimension, if at all, than the car on which it is based (Mini Cooper). The extra size is an optical illusion.
Also - the mass and form of an SUV makes them a good option in terms of safety. Smaller vehicles get crunched like pop cans, and trucks get sandwiched by their own bed if you hit a solid object.
Making yourself safer by making everyone else less safe still seems like an asshole move to me?
Bumper height should have been regulated on city roads, then we wouldn’t have gotten this escalation. Work truck, sure. If you need one, you need one. But people who drive a massive gas guzzler to park it at the office and go up the elevator to work?
Actually no. SUVs are great at murdering the drivers of other cars, they do not in fact protect you any better. Its just a big blow up dick for assholes.
Would it be correct to sum up your post as: my family is so handicapped they can only drives SUVs, i am an asshole and need to talk about my COMPACT SUV because people in my life do not talk about it enough?
I don know why there’s so many furry memes on Lemmy Shitpost, but I’m loving it. Also because it allows me to cross post to the furry memes community :P
NL here: Imported American trucks. You do not need a car that costs €5000/month in fuel alone that you cannot use practically in any way that a van, a regular car or even a bakfiets could do more cost-effectively. The only people who go through the effort to get such a vehicle are compensating for something, and a Dodge Ram in The Netherlands is only useful for dick measuring, and the most significant thing it’ll ever move is the owner’s fragile ego.
The difference is that those men are not objectified. Yes, those bodies are unrealistic indeed, but those beefcake guys are not presented as sex objects who have no other purpose in this world than to please women.
As a woman, who is into men, and has friends who are also into men. Everyone I know who is into men would say Hiddleston is more attractive than any of them.
When we say buff men are there for the male gaze what we’re saying is that they’re filling a male power fantasy of being the “big strong hero” archetype. You’ll also notice that all of them were depicted as being complex characters in their own right, absent of just being big and buff.
These kind representations do cause body image problems in men. Some more conscious toy manufacturers did redesign their action figures to look more like actual body builders, even if that is still not how soldiers and other combatants look like in real life (for the most part at least). Some actors dehydrate themselves for shirtless scenes.
But why does it have to mention that “it is not limited to women”? And why do people then complain that people start writing about women issues in the comments when that is literally what the meme is doing?
Why shouldn’t it? Is it not something people should be aware of?
The meme is just highlighting how the unrealistic standard of beauty is an issue for both genders, but some feminists make it sound like it’s only a woman issue.
I also don’t see complaints about people talking about women’s issues, at most there’s complaints about people belittling men’s issues.
