they’re flipping themselves off though

CodingSquirrel ,

How are they flipping themselves off if your fingers point towards yourself when doing a thumbs up?

Condalmo ,

Because their mom is standing behind the hand and so it’s flipping her off and if you flip off someone’s mom you’re flipping them off and it’s time for a donnybrook

I don’t care all that much. Sometimes a thumbs up is the way to acknowledge you heard them.

30isthenew29 ,

Sometimes people see things the way they want to see them. Not your fault.

They’re taking up an outrageous amount of space.

outdated_belated ,

To be fair, the screencap is just of the brony region, and there’s lots of other canvas with no mention of them. https://i.imgur.com/b3G62DY.jpg

It’s part of the fun, to get rid of the bronies on the canvas.

DefyTheLegends ,

I thought they were extinct by now, because I haven’t heard or seen that fad in, what feels like, years.

ultimate_question ,

I feel like this reveals an uncomfortable truth about the lemmy user base lol

InfiniWheel ,

Bronies are like furries in a way, if you look at the big picture for a second tou realize they run the (digital) world

Gamey ,

For me as outsider they look even more desturbing, it’s about a kids show and they dress up really fucking weard but I guess it could be a unfair assumption for om my side too, kinks are always kind of weard!

InfiniWheel ,

Not a brony myself either. But most of them are just fans of that show, its not just a kink, a lot just really like the pony show.

Gamey ,

Interesting, I thought it was comparable to Furries or am I wrong about those too?

StillWatersPony ,
@StillWatersPony@lemmy.world avatar

Depends on what you mean by ‘comparable’! I think the two fandoms are quite similar, just that bronies focus on being a fan of one series whereas furries are more fans of the idea of anthropomorphized characters, or animal-ish characters.

And there’s a lot of differences between fans, too. Just in like any fandom. I’m pretty sure for some it might be a kink like the stereotype says, but other MLP fans use it as a vehicle for self-expression or self-discovery through the prosocial messages and themes. Ultimately it’s a complicated topic that one could write a lot about!

Korne127 ,
@Korne127@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, the same applies to Furries but more

HiddenLayer5 ,

Can we not bring the randomly hating groups of people doing benigin things from Reddit? Please? What’s wrong with drawing MLP characters on a pixel map exactly?

I always thought Hyundai was off brand Honda

No, HMC’s history is a bit more complicated en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Motor_Company and has more of a historical association with Mitsubishi, particularly for drivetrains.

There have been several badge engineered Hondas like the Rover 800 series

snake_case , in Blue or red door?

If you go through the blue door can you also fix the mistake of going through the blue door? Would that invalidate the fixes you had applied earlier? Or can you technically walk through both doors, I’m a big fan of having cake and eating it!

Also mistakes are how you learn, I feel like if you had never made any mistakes you wouldn’t learn lessons from them it could completely change your fundamental character. After all are we not just the sum of our experiences?

👍

tigull , in 100, here I cum

I guess the point is you’re middle aged in regards to your contribution to society. First 15-20 years of your life you pretty much just “take”, while the following 50ish you are expected to chip in. In those terms, 50 sounds about right as being referred to as “middle aged”.

Contend6248 ,

Holy, i never thought about it like that

Machindo ,

Something doesn’t seem right about that.

You’re supposed to work 40+ years to pay off a 20 year debt to society? That doesn’t seem fair.

Also you didn’t chose to be born, I don’t think you owe anyone anything for having to grow to reach an age where you have agency over yourself.

Smoogs ,

technically NO ONE asked to be born. Not even your parents or your grandparents.

tigull ,

a 20 year debt to society

It could actually be way more than that when you consider retirement (in much of the western world at least). You also can’t really “have agency over yourself” in the sense you mean without making use of what society puts at everyone else’s disposal (roads/internet/currency/etc), and freeloading comes with all sorts of drawbacks because society is shaped in a way that doesn’t reward it for obvious reasons.

disinterested_a_hole ,

It’s not a debt to society. You have to “chip in” to take care of yourself and what you consume & throw away.

You’re free to go live in the backwoods, build a rudimentary cabin, and hunt or fish to survive. That might be harder work than what you’ve got now though.

Karnickel ,

That’s illegal in a lot of places

disinterested_a_hole ,

There’s lots of wide open spaces and cheap land in the American West. They’re just remote and devoid of many modern conveniences. Source - I live in the Rocky Mountains.

What I hear is somebody bitching about having to work and pay taxes and having not asked to be born, who still demands access to all the modern conveniences that work and taxes pay for.

That’s top tier tone deaf whining.

_sideffect ,

Actually, we pay a fuck ton during that time

Magrid , (edited ) in But have you tried Jerboa?
@Magrid@lemm.ee avatar

I’m using Sync for lemmy

edit: I tried it these days and I don’t like it, I’m switching back to the webapp

jesus_talks ,

Same.

TheQuantumPhysicist ,

The amount of shilling Sync receives makes me worry that something is up with it. It’s not normal that I even believe some bots and sock puppets are involved. I’m not touching it with a long stick until someone does some proper security analysis on it. I’m not dumb to fall for peer pressure. Good luck, guys!

OsrsNeedsF2P ,

Nah man, it’s just good.

(I don’t use it btw)

Freesoftwareenjoyer ,

I’m not touching it with a long stick until someone does some proper security analysis on it

How would that happen? It’s proprietary software, we don’t have access to the source code. And that’s the whole point. We can’t verify what it does and we can’t modify it.

The alternative is Free/Libre Software. That’s what Lemmy is, Jerboa and many others. Their authors publish the source code and let their users study it, modify it and distribute it. Because they are not trying to hide anything from us. That’s the ethical way to make software.

TheQuantumPhysicist ,

Security analysis doesn’t require the source code. TikTok was repeatedly analyzed without it being open source.

Freesoftwareenjoyer ,

Perhaps you are right, but it’s way more difficult, takes a lot of time and requires a different set of skills. If there is spyware in it, it would be illegal to remove it and distribute a patch for other users. So even if you find something, there is not much you can do about it.

It’s not very practical to add spyware into Libre Software though, because it wouldn’t be hard to find and it would be very easy for users to remove it.

Historical_General ,

FOSS for Lemmy

It’s just very popular - I used it for reddit. It had a lot of installs on play and was recommended often on reddit.

sheogorath ,

It’s just good. I used it for years, and even bought the Pro version of the reddit app. The main feature for me is the performance. I don’t have a high end phone and Sync are the only one with a consistent scrolling performance (no dropped frames).
