I’m 100% convinced that if Christ came today the majority of white American Christians would call him a demon and one of them will end up shooting him. Especially if he came back as a man of color that spread anti-capitalist ideas and hung out with the poor, sick, and unwanted. They’d never, ever, tolerate that.
IF Christianity is true, a large amount of souls of self-proclaimed “Christians” are in danger of damnation. They are actually doing Satan’s work for him. The issue are the ones 100% certain they are “saved” while spouting racist, evil things at the same time. How do you talk to people like that? How do you convince them that they are in fact 100% wrong and likely going to the same hell they claim everyone else is going to? I’m an atheist, so most wouldn’t even take me seriously.
There was actually an opening to an episode of American Gods that has that exact scenario. He literally walks across the Rio Grande and after he gets to shore a bunch of hilbillies with religious iconography alongside their confederate flags roll up in their lifted trucks and shoot him with a fully automatic weapon.
Makes me wonder how many racists watched that episode and thought to themselves “that would never be me” while fully supporting the mentality behind it.
Better take another look at the Bible, because Jesus disagrees. In fact, he is kind of a fetishist about all the suffering he will visit on those who don’t worship him.
A lot of Christian denominations would disagree with you on this. It is also a bit absurd to make absolute claims about what Christianity is and is not because it varies greatly from denomination to denomination (none of which has a monopoly on their interpretation of the bible).
47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where
You forgot the best past. He hung out with a group of men and one woman, and the one woman wasn’t any of the men’s girlfriend. Conservative Christians would perhaps thought this was an unnatural arrangement.
Yeah, that’s what I always think. For me (German), Christianity is mostly acceptance of other people, empathy, caring for people who have it worse than you, loving your next, etc. Which in policies is… being for welfare, donating, accepting LGBTQ+ and supporting them, etc.
Evangelicals have always confused me because they are against everything Jesus stood for.
Anyone can design a 70 mile long aqueduct. It takes a skilled engineer to design a 70 mile long aqueduct using the minimal amount of materials necessary.
I’m absolutely thrilled to have sync on the Fediverse, and will happily pay for a yearly subscription to help ensure LJD has sufficient compensation to keep the app up-to-date with whatever changes come to the Android/Lemmy APIs years down the road.
The problem with (even excellent) free apps for platforms like this, is they require consistent maintenance to keep up with both the platform they run on (Android), and the platform they serve content for (Lemmy). That is not a trivial amount of work, and is absolutely deserving of continued, recurring compensation IMO.
A one-time payment might make sense for a simple native game that gets produced once, has no web component, and never needs another update for its entire lifetime, but not for this. You aren’t paying for a singular product, you’re paying for a service. You wouldn’t go to the barber and winged about needing to pay every time I get my hair cut.
I think it was around that time in my French class, with my teacher just without any comment expecting us to take that seriously, that I decided that’s not a language I wanted to deal with.
Due to reports of misinformation from users I’ll post this comment here.
No. They were not actually tossing coins backwards for good luck fighting climate change. No one knows exactly what the people in this picture were actually wishing good luck for.
I don’t want to come down too hard on people but one of my jobs as moderator is to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Well the current coalition isnt really doing any better in that regard. All they seem to care about is condemning climate protesters and the usual corrupt behaviour that we know from the CDU…
There would never have been a Deutschlandticket with CDU. Fuck FDP but at least neither Grüne nor SPD is openly fellating the AfD Nazis like the current CDU is doing.
“… in that regard.” I generally prefer our current government, but that does not morally prevent me from critizicing them and shitting on their bad behavior. Better != Good
Deutschlandticket should have been a wake-up call for the desolate state of public transport.
For years and years DB complained that they cannot provide a more broadly available service because there is not enough public interest. Factual statements about the booking process for interstate travel and high fares for short travels were swept aside as hearsay.
Suddenly, public interest piqued because of the Deutschlandticket and it was a disaster with a capital D. Who got the blame? The company that failed to expand even tho they had a monopoly-by-law for over 60 years and that doesn’t pay for the infrastructure they are using to make profit? No, it was the customers of course.
What came of the whole ordeal? Absolutely fucking nothing. Business as usual.
Condemning climate protesters isn’t anything unique to politicians. We would all be behind them if they blockaded billionaire homes but sitting on highways only makes us despise them like we do PETA.
I’m powerless to do anything. Preventing me from moving my car from point A to B doesn’t make me motivated to stop climate change, it motivates me to see you arrested.
Protest a billionaire or a politician and I’m behind you.
