I just don’t want to support the monopoly.

Also Firefox has been so tempting since the new engine written in Rust came out. It has a wide range of supporting add-ons.

finnie ,

Is that quantum or is there another rewrite I don’t know about?

@h_a_r_u_k_i@programming.dev avatar

I’m talking about quantum. I switched to Firefox since quantum came out.

Works well

Extendable

Open source

Not chrome based

chili1553 , to asklemmy in Why do you use firefox?

I think Firefox is a pretty cool guy. Eh has great add-ons and customization and doesn’t afraid of anything

DScratch ,

Holy moly that takes me back.

It’s an older meme, but it checks out.

demonquark , to til in TIL about Moonbow: Nature's Rare and Beautiful Phenomenon Similar to Rainbow

Isn’t that just a rainbow. I mean it’s the same effect. Just with a different light source. Seeing as the light source is not specified in the word rainbow, I don’t see the need to a different word.

dustyData ,

In person they’re quite distinct. Very faint and dulled colors. It’s the same effect but it looks different enough, along with the different context of the experience, that they could be considered different phenomena.

kmkz_ninja ,

It isn’t even a different light source. It’s just making a trip to the moon before it reaches us instead.

CarlsIII ,

Yeah, why then isn’t the other kind of rainbow called a “sunbow”?

  1. Mozilla’s goals for the web line up quite nicely with my own.
  2. The performance is good for what I want.
  3. The extension API is more powerful than Chrome’s.
  4. Outside of the Apple ecosystem, it’s the last major alternative to the Chrome skins.
  5. It isn’t actively trying to cripple adblockers.
Sneptaur , to asklemmy in Why do you use firefox?

It’s open source, free, well maintained, and easy to set up and use.

scarilog ,

You could say the same of Chrome, to be fair.

folkrav ,

Chrome is not open-source. Chromium is.

Sneptaur ,
@Sneptaur@pawb.social avatar

Only technically and only if you’re talking about chromium. Chrome is about as open source as Android. Meaning not at all by the time it gets to most consumers.

What the fuck is this title supposed to even mean?

It means OP should probably lay off the paint chips.

Sooperstition , to asklemmy in Why do you use firefox?

Add-ons, it’s not chromium, and also I CAN BLOCK AUTOPLAY VIDEOS on it

drew_belloc , to technology in Why do you use firefox?

Is not chromium, has a good UI, supports manifest v2, is open source and have native support for autoscrolling on linux

jarfil ,

It also supports MV3 without removing the blocking WebRequest hook.

I lived through the IE6 days. I don’t want one browser or engine or company to dominate the web. We need multiple implementations of free and open standards.

apprehentice , to technology in Why do you use firefox?

It’s not Chrome or Chromium derived. Google has incentives to mine me for data. Mozilla, not so much. I don’t trust Mozilla completely, but I certainly trust them more than Google to have my best interest at heart.

jarfil ,

Mozilla is mostly funded by Google:

gender confused

I’m tired of people telling me I’m confused. I wasn’t confused until people started telling me I was.

You know what I think? I think you are the ones that are confused. I’m not gonna be confused anymore just because you say I should be.

I can’t even tell most of you people apart.

Have you ever considered maybe that's the point? Maybe people want to be judged for what they say instead of what image they had on hand when they signed up?

I uploaded a pic while playing with all the shiny features over here, but I was faceless on reddit for years after their introduction of profile pics, because I was there to have discussions, not build a profile. And the one I picked here? It tells you almost nothing about me unless you already know the character in the image, which only people who have a similar niche interest might.

This is like whining about women who don't wear makeup, because "If you have the option why not just snazzy it up with a couple of images tiny bit of eyeshadow. I think it’s shows a bit of personality." Sometimes the active decision not to bother with cosmetic features IS the personality you're looking for.
