According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWRA), 85 percent of Palestinians in Gaza — 1.9 million people — have been internally displaced by the war […] displaced Gazans are reportedly living in squalid, overcrowded winter conditions with little clean water for drinking and washing.

Conditions are considerably worse now with the near-complete lack of fuel and electricity to operate sewage treatment equipment and hundreds of tons of garbage piling up daily in southern Gaza.
“Without enough latrines, open-air defecation is prevalent, increasing concerns of further spread of disease, particularly during rains and related flooding,” said a December 22 update from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

According to OCHA, it is projected that by February, the entire population of Gaza (approximately 2.2 million people) will experience severe food insecurity. This, in combination with a lack of water, sanitation, and hygiene, could lead to a completely dire health situation, said the World Health Organization.

Davidovitch and Calderon-Margalit were among a group of public health physicians who condemned a provocative statement by former head of the Israeli National Security Council Giora Eiland in a November 21 interview with the Hebrew-language financial publication Globes. Eiland suggested that humanitarian aid should be denied to Gaza so that epidemics would spread and lead Hamas to surrender more quickly.

Add biological warfare to the growing list of crimes against humanity committed by the Zionist entity in just the past couple months.

Who would’ve thought that completely destroying health infrastructure in Gaza would increase risk of disease near Gaza?

It says there has been no case since the start of the war where the Air Force did not strike, or ground forces did not fire, because of a shortage of ammunition.

Genocide Joe couldn’t get the Ukrainians their weapons but the IDF Nazis sure don’t have an ammunition shortage.

Apollo ,

Genocide Joe has sent far more weapons to Ukraine than to Israel. Ukraine is also consuming far more ammunition than Israel thanks to the type and scope of the conflicts being vastly different.

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

Ukraine getting decades old mortars while israel gets brand new F35’s and 2000 pound bunker busters to throw on schools.

Furthermore israel has received far more military aid than Ukraine if you only count a years before the Russian invasion.

Genocide Joe has put in insane work to remove weapons restrictions for israel including giving them the American stockpile that was already there but not meant for israel. He is not doing this kind of work for Ukraine at all.

Apollo ,

Ukraine can’t exactly use 2000lb bombs very often, given the strength and depth of Russian air defence, but it has great use for ‘decades old mortars’.

Ukraine has recieved plenty of shit that wasn’t for export or came directly from US Army stockpiles. ATACMS is a good example of this.

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

They could if they directly got some free F35’s with it like israel has. Instead it took two years to get them a few old F16’s.

Apollo ,

If it takes 3-6 months to train ukrainian pilots to fly f-16 it would take a lot longer to train them on F-35.

Israel is a partner nation in the F-35 program, are you sure they got them “for free”?

Linkerbaan ,
@Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

You should look up how much free money America gives israel every single year. They got way more than that and all for free.

DoomBot5 ,

How about the sentence before that for context:

The TV report also addresses what it says have been claims that the IDF is engaged in “armament economics” — in other words, that it is conserving ammunition to ensure it does not run out.

The Defense Ministry has made NIS 40 billion (almost $2.8 billion) in additional purchases from the US, it says.

American taxpayer dollars flowing through a foreign ethnic cleansing campaign into the pockets of wealthy investors. Just as the founding fathers intended.

corroded ,

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, but if Israel purchased the equipment, how are taxpayer dollars being used for this?

Doorbook ,

Where do you think Isreal have the money from?

corroded ,

From Israeli taxpayers?

bartolomeo ,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Israel gets something like 3.8 billion dollars in military aid from the US every year. That means money to buy military stuff, with the hopes (or an agreement) that they buy it from the US. That means it’s US taxpayer money sent to Israel for them to buy military gear from American companies to do ethnic cleansing and land grabs in Palestine.

What I was referring to is how Israeli papers, especially ToI, refers to Palestinians (Palestinian citizens of Israel or otherwise) as “Arabs” as a form of cultural erasure.

Judging from the downvotes I got, it seems this was not as widely known as I’d assumed.

djquadratic ,

Actually there are a good number of Arab Israelis who are not of Palestinian origin. It’s a more encompassing term. Plus from what I know Times of Israel is left leaning - so you might be barking up the wrong tree here.

snek ,
@snek@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, there are many Arab Israelis, but there are many more “of Palestinian origin”.

You're presuming he only told the media, which is not what that report says. His team relayed this to Israeli officials:

Biden aide Jake Sullivan, the US national security adviser, is in Israel today and tomorrow for meetings with Israeli officials. He says he held “intense, detailed conversations” with Israeli officials on transitioning away from high-intensity fighting in Gaza, and focusing on more precise battles and targeting top Hamas officials.

Funny how most everyone here assumes the worst of Biden despite all he's doing.

mlg ,
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

Sending aid and discouraging casualties by telling the media and discussing it with Israeli officials without any incentive or enforcement is about as useful as telling the police that you swear the 10lb of weed you have fell in through the window and the proof is that it doesn’t have your name on it.

FTFY

No one is assuming the worst of Biden. It’s just that american foreign policy has been exactly the same for so long that it doesn’t surprise anyone when the USA pretends to care about an international issue. Especially now that declassified CIA docs show just how much the USA has been aware and involved in practically every area they consider even a minor strategic advantage.
