Better yet… invite a cheesy motivational speaker who part times as a used car salesman and a crypto bro

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

I legit had a “motivational speaker” come in and tell us how the metaverse was literally changing society for the better and how we should all be fully invested in crypto. No shit, deadpan told us that, when Bitcoin was at 60k.

That was the largest waste of time and company money I have ever seen. So so so many back channel chats about how stupid it was.

Knusper ,

Our upper management paid for consulting a while ago and that consultant was similarly peddling bullshit numbers how much interest there is for the metaverse. Of course, from a survey conducted by that consulting company, so you couldn’t even check their methodology etc…

Well, and upper management felt this was so insightful that they made a company-wide announcement with those numbers.

Thing is, we’re an IT company. It felt like a quarter of all employees commented under that announcement, that this did not match up with their own observations at all.
Basically, management got scammed and fell for it wholesale, when they could have just talked to their employees.

  • by time

  • by existing users at the time of the poll’s creation
  • single choice, multiple choices, ranked choice

FauxPseudo , to til in TIL: You can easily check eggs for being bad or fresh
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

This doesn’t tell you if it’s good or bad. Just tells you if it’s new or old. Older eggs have more air in them.

Allero ,

If it has so much it floats, you have to throw it away.

FauxPseudo , (edited )
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

The difference between sinks and floats is a pretty small amount of air. Now if the egg truly does go sideways then there is probably an issue because the air sack has broken. But floating itself doesn’t say anything about the safety of the egg.

n3m37h ,

Have ya ever cracked open a floater? I have recently and it took a few hours for the smell to leave the kitchen

FauxPseudo ,
@FauxPseudo@lemmy.world avatar

Have you ever cracked open a floater and found a perfectly fine egg? You are counting the ones that confirm your bias but don’t have a large enough sample size to work from. I have 21 chickens. 5 ducks and an unknown number of geese that lay eggs. I’ve seen fresh hour old eggs that are bad and sink. I’ve seen 6 week old eggs stored at room temperature that sink. I’ve had day one eggs that float and are still fine. Eggs are a natural product with high amounts of variation. We can’t even reliably tell if a fertilized egg is male or female using the best science available and people expect a float test to determine if it’s infected with bacteria? Not happening. The float test tells you how much air is in it. That’s all. And that isn’t even a guaranteed way to determine age.

Black_Gulaman ,
@Black_Gulaman@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I regularly cook eggs that float on water before boiling. It’s still good. Don’t waste food.

spittingimage , (edited ) to asklemmy in Is this actually true???
@spittingimage@lemmy.world avatar

It’s true for half the species. Women have those stripes. Each cell of a woman’s body only needs one active copy of the X chromosome, so when they’re very young each cell will turn off a copy at random. Each cell that cell divides into will have the same copy turned off, so patterns develop. Those patterns of cells absorb and reflect UV light differently based on which copy is turned off. If you can see in UV light, women are stripey.

Edit to add: after further reading it appears that men have Blaschko’s lines too, although more faintly. If so, the X-inactivation explanation is wrong, or at least incomplete.

wonderfulvoltaire ,
@wonderfulvoltaire@lemmy.world avatar

The whole purpose of the chapter is about personal responsibility to protect your body like a temple, protect yourself against adultery because it will harm your relationships not just with God. Nothing about it said to tell people how to live their lives and it’s depressing that’s what the mainstream right thinks is okay.

I need to be dead honest here. This is Lemmy. If it isn’t there, make it. I get not wanting to moderate etc. but if you want that thing to happen you’re going to have to make it and you’re going to have to post as often as you can. Do I want to mod a community? Not at all, but I’ve made two and I post to both as often as I can when the opportunity strikes.

The whole “this niche thing doesn’t exist so I’m not enjoying Lemmy” argument falls flat for me. Just take the leap and keep going at the pace you can. Even if it is slow, it’s something and people may migrate and enjoy the content. Ignore downvotes, they don’t really matter here. Just post stuff, even if it is irregular.

Track_Shovel OP ,

I think you missed the point of the meme. Lemmy itself is pretty niche, which is why I shitposted it here. Non-defensively, I mod 3 small niche communities.

Ah, you’re right. I just get frustrated sometimes. Doing all we can, and it never feels like enough.
