I’ve been wondering this. I have multiple of the older (non-Dot, the tall, cylindrical ones) Echoes. I hate using them. But I do like the form factor and sound quality.
It probably can’t be too hard to gut everything but the speakers, microphone and DC port, then wire in a Pi / Pi Zero, right…?
I assume their motherboard is a write-off. The form factor in speaker are probably all we have to start with. For a few bucks you could turn it into a decent Bluetooth speaker. Want to get a little more intense if you want to do anything interesting like voice control.
I’d really like to find a way to drive the display and touch screen on the shows
Yeah that’s kind of the direction I was thinking. I really want to have access to the screen and the touch controls on the shows though. It’ll all come in time.
There’s another really wicked side project I saw running on pis. You put a Bluetooth enabled device in every room and it tracks where your items are. So you could ask where your keys aren’t to triangulate which room in your house they were in.
…man, I always hate when comments are removed by mods. I always assume it was the worst, like a nazi trying to build up hate and promoting using atom bombs or something.
And then sometimes I find out it’s something mundane.
I want to know what he said, so I can eat popcorn, and watch the drama…but it’s probably too tame to warrent popcorn.
I guess what I’m saying is, why don’t we make a popcorn community, so you guys can share your popcorn reciepes…and if you want to share juicy gossip about that bitch at work from HR, so be it…
Best part is it was mundane, it was a account made within the hour and speedrunning to get banned. Was really hoping this place would be much better than reddit. Needs more cat subs tbh.
No Russia is completely responsible, if they hadn’t occupied it, Ukraine wouldn’t have to fight to get it back. Fuck Russia your rhetoric is stupid. The Russians are the Nazis and Putin will die in a bunker.
…I’m hoping for Putin to be brought in and put on alcatraz. Yes, I know it’s been abandoned as a jail. I figure fuck it, put him in, lock him up, and then absndon it again. If he lives he lives, if he starves, he starves.
I know this whole message is preaching to the choir but:
You guys managed to find like the one time in history that US military ordinance killed civilians that unequivocally wasn't our fault, when they were attacking a clearly military target under occupation from a clearly malicious invading force
And you are, predictably, complaining like it's our fault you put the airfield right next to a fucking public beach and then didn't sound any kind of warning that it was under active bombardment and knocked one of the missiles off its military target and it fell on some people
Russia is also claiming they shot down 4 missiles. Their track record suggests that’s unlikely. This whole story reeks of bullshit. Lemme know when literally any other country reports civilian casualties and then I’ll care.
What is “German brigade in Lithuania”? I understand both are in NATO, but I was under the impression it was Lithuanian army that was part of NATO, not that there are NATO brigades from elsewhere in individual countries (not counting US bases)
This is an interesting issue, with multiple fronts:
Spain has a large chunk of its GDP tied to tourism, but…
Some places are getting overcrowded, like Ibiza, Barcelona, or Madrid, which discourages tourism.
Having a large number or holiday apartments, increases housing prices for local residents…
And causes noise issues during the holiday season…
And makes it difficult for seasonal workers to find a place to live.
While during the off-season, it leaves a lot of apartments unoccupied, making them an easy target for illegal occupation, with whole gangs living from it, which then require LEO resources to vacate them…
And makes it extra difficult for local non-tourism businesses to survive…
To the point that they’re converting business locals into… holiday apartments.
The plan to shut “all” holiday apartments is kind of a pipe dream, or part of populist politics… more so in Barcelona, where right now the recent elections have left Catalonia with parties so divided, that they can’t even agree on a viable candidate to lead it.
A slightly more realistic issue to tackle, are “illegal” holiday apartments that don’t pay the corresponding taxes. Some estimate that Madrid has a 10:1 ratio of illegal vs. registered holiday apartments.
But in general, there is currently no solution that would keep those apartments occupied all year round, without neighbor conflict, in areas that live mainly off seasonal tourism.
For example, Ibiza has 40K permanent residents, but capacity for 600K tourists, which leads to seasonal workers living in trailer parks, or even in their own cars.
