if it’s an image or something small i just send it to myself on discord

JusticeForPorygon ,
@JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world avatar

That can work for most things, but if it’s something like a photo, you have to put up with compression

shneancy ,

yea i’m aware, i rarely need full resolution photos on my phone. And if i do i send myself a wetransfer link on discord

renzev OP ,

I knew a guy whose “password manager” was a discord server with only himself in it. He would just send username-password combinations as plaintext messages, and look back through the chat history when he needed to log in somewhere.

shneancy ,

covered in fleas

What’s the protocol for bringing in flea and potentially disease borne pint sized nuggets from the wild without those fleas hopping off the pint sized nugget and into your carpet, bathroom rug, etc? Do you just not bring her inside until she’s been treated or something else?

nublug ,

i use revolution (selamectin) from the vet and it’s like a fucking flea nuke. if you’re getting it soon i wouldn’t worry about fleas getting in the house because once you use this stuff it’ll clear all of them out of the area in literally hours. fantastic stuff.

also, don’t trust any over the counter flea sprays or treatments at stores, they all use neurotoxins that they claim is safe for cats, but some cats are more sensitive and it might cause neurological damage or even death.

Lennnny OP ,
@Lennnny@lemmy.world avatar

This! We basically big bombed the kitty! We pay a pretty penny to our vet and they basically made her “social ready” in a few hours.

I feel a bit like a bit of a fossil here, but why not drop the file into a network file share and grab it from there on your phone? No physical item required

MudMan ,

Cx Expolorer on Android can access network shares and Samba shares like a desktop OS. It really isn't a particularly outdated option, it's so much less fiddly than direct drive access from a PC and it effectively works just like a USB stick, interface-wise, without having to do the whole "where did I put my thumbdrive" dance each time.

honestly though the cloud ones are so bad, their ui is so slow, bloated and clunky, and they take ages to transfer files with

renzev OP ,

My experience with owncloud/nextcloud tbh. Same buggy sluggishness of cloud storage services, but hey, at least it’s selfhosted!

umbraroze , to lemmyshitpost in Damn it Salmo

Salmo has two AI packages commanding him to take five loaves of bread to the Two Sisters Lodge at 10am and to the West Weald Inn at midday, but the packages never execute as he has no bread in his inventory and the packages are of “escort” type, meaning he doesn’t actively seek any out. It’s possible this bug was introduced to avoid another, more serious one: if bread is given to Salmo using the console or CS, he will walk to one of the inns as commanded, take a bite of bread, and the game will crash. (UESP)

Right, this is classic Bethesda stuff right here.

leisesprecher ,

This is what’s happening in highly complex software over time. Every larger system has corners like this.

I’ve worked on a system that required that you send invalid XML, because some bloke 10 years ago didn’t know what he’s doing and hardcoded a certain structure.

Easy fix, but our clients relied in the old behavior, and nobody bothered fixing it.

Prunebutt ,

and nobody bothered fixing it.

As they said: “Classic Bethesda behavior”

_stranger_ ,

Bethesda implemented a train in fallout 3 as a person wearing a train for a hat.

I don’t think they’re capable of solving things in normal straightforward ways.

FiniteBanjo ,

TBF the train worked really well and they managed to avoid programming vehicles from scratch.

roguetrick ,

And the terrain that train is passing? Also a hat. The skybox the terrain is floating in? You guessed it. It’s hats all the way down.

Only gave Skyrim a try a few times, the combats a bit clunky and the game feels repetitive. It can look very good though, especially with mods. The world is interesting.

morphballganon ,

the combats a bit clunky

Compared to what?

cyberpunk007 ,

Compared to nothing, it’s clunky

morphballganon ,

You can’t think of a game with non-clunky combat, and you still mark Skyrim down for it?

cyberpunk007 ,

Your argument is just weird. Ok how about elden ring. Doom eternal. Cyberpunk 2077. The Witcher 3. Stardew valley. I dunno what you want from me but the combat in Skyrim is clunky.

morphballganon ,

Asking you to clarify your argument is not me making my own. That’s a straw man fallacy.

Also Skyrim’s combat is much better than Stardew Valley’s…

cyberpunk007 ,

You’re entitled to your view and that’s ok.

Rai ,

I’m hella on your side, “compared to what” is a fucking stupid question. I love Skyrim and it’s clunkier than old style Monster Hunter games. Mods help but dang… it clunky. It’s only NOT clunky when doing archery the whole time, which is why everyone does that. The arching is good… also with mods… and in VR.

Even Fallout 4’s combat is less clunky and it’s CLUNK AS HELL

Rai ,

cringe

morphballganon ,

Stardew has no dual wielding… only one type of attack per weapon. There are bombs, sure.

Compared to Skyrim though?

Rai ,

THAT’s your response?

That’s very funny.

morphballganon ,

… are we playing different games, or are you a troll?

kronarbob ,

It’s the combat part of the game that made it hard to me to play Skyrim. I use some mod and play a mage to avoid playing with weapons, because I find the combat system slow and boring.

I’m replaying Dark Messiah. The game aged, but its combat style is still as dynamic as I remembered. Back then, It’s because I compared it to the Oblivion one that I didn’t played Oblivion more than a couple of minutes.

Koen967 ,

The combat is honestly my problem with most Bethesda games. I enjoy the environment and story, but the combat feels lackluster to me. Hits with any kind of weapon feel like they miss impact on the enemy. Other than that, great games.

MyNameIsAtticus OP ,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I have a mod in here called Valhalla Combat irc. Idk if it fixes your issue with the combat but it adds things like a lock on to make it much easier to keep a flow

cyberpunk007 ,

I’ll keep this in mind thanks!

I’ve been in the mood to play Skyrim the past few days so i downloaded it and painstakingly installed a nexus Modpack with a ton of QOL changes. It took forever but I am pleased with the results because the game looks gorgeous and has a ton of neat new mechanics that makes it feel immersive
