But why would the ship appear to be in two places at once? Even if it moves FTL, the light reflection from its first location stops the instant it moves to a new location. Even if there was a delay in the reflection from the first position, there would also be a delay in the light reflecting off of it at the second location.
this sort of really briefly works if the observer is nearer the new location. Light from the new location reaches the observer before the lack-of-light reached the observer from the old location.
still would only work for the tiniest amount of time and confuse no-one, but then this isn’t hard sci-fi.
Yes, that's my point. It seems to me to be a case of people having fun at the expense of dogs instead of with them. I've never dressed a dog up, but I'm fairly certain my dog would not like it. But maybe some dogs get trained for this? Idk, that's why I'm asking to those who actually partake in this.
Some dogs definitely need to be trained in order to wear clothes - it’s not unusual for small dogs in cold climates to wear sweaters during winter for walks and such, and I’ve seen people dress their dogs in clothing instead of a cone when possible.
As much as I want him gone forever, it is super hard to carry out death sentences in this country. His natural lifespan is significantly less than the legal proceedings that would take - and it would only make him an infallible martyr in the eyes of some. Being alive means he can keep making mistakes and destroy his own legacy. America needs to render him harmless to democracy itself more than it needs an emotionally satisfying end.
If you’re using a GUI, that means whatever you’re doing you’re not doing a lot of it, since you don’t need to automate it. I would expect a world-class enterprise engineer to be able to automate most tasks, and from that they would be very comfortable with the command line.
Can you do everything with a GUI that you can on a command line? Yeah probably, if the developer is at all the features properly. Can you automate it easily? No not at all. So the more you do something the more you tend to want to deal with the vocabulary of the command line because it’s more expressive and allows for automation.
Depends on what system you’re running, and especially what task you’re doing. Trying to operate firewall rules via CLI is an exercise in self-inflicted pain, as is trying to set a complex cron schedule without a handy calculator.
Documentation too. Frontends change all the time, but CLI tools usually don’t, so you can usually rely on old documentation. But have you ever tried googling how to do something in MS office, found and article from half a year ago and found that none of the things it mentions exist anymore? It’s ridiculous how much time people waste trying to figure out stuff multiple times because it changes so much.
CLI debuggers can’t hold a candle to the Visual Studio debugger. This is generally not something you automate, and I haven’t met many engineers that know gdb well. But pretty much anyone can use VS debugger.
Chuck Todd mentioned on Meet the Press a few days ago that his pet theory is that Biden will commute Trump’s [federal] sentence if Biden gets reelected (obviously, Trump pardons himself if Trump is elected). As much as I would hope that wouldn’t be the case (honestly I’ve been convinced jail time is inevitable for Trump on these charges and this evidence), I think it’s pretty plausible this winds up being the conclusion to this whole saga.
Nah it’s a stupid TV pundit fantasy. Why would Biden do it? What politicial benefit would he get? Would it win him any Republican votes? Would it preserve democracy? No and no. Trump is literally cursing at Biden in speeches.
Biden will commute Trump’s [federal] sentence if Biden gets reelected
That would be a lot of political capital used for what? Why would Biden help Trump in any way?
Biden was in the Senate for over thirty years. He knows how to horse trade. Trump has nothing he wants. Former president? Who cares! Biden is literally president now.
Are you serious? Hasn’t the GOP shown that’s not how they do things enough times for people to understand going high with them doesn’t matter? They know Democrats always go high, it just allows them to go low.
I agree. I guess the reason would be “national healing”. That neglects that the innate wish for justice requires punishment for half the country to get the catharsis it seeks.
There’s also a point that he needs to go to jail and the country needs to “hurt” and not “heal” to avoid an even worse situation in the future. If Nixon wasn’t pardoned and was convicted, would we have the same political shitshow we have now? Probably not, and I’d hope it wouldn’t be worse.

I would think of it less as “what could Trump give Biden” and more of “what could the MAGAs in Congress give Biden.” Chances are good that a second-term Biden will need to work with at least one Republican-controlled chamber in Congress, and something like this might be what allows him to do something as simple as pass a budget.
For better or for worse, Trump is almost literally the second coming of Jesus to a large number of Republicans, and commuting his sentence might be something that provides Biden some leverage that could allow his presidency to function. Again, not saying that’s anywhere near an ideal outcome (I’d much rather see Trump rot in prison), but it wasn’t an outcome I’d previously considered and one I could see happening.
With Garland in charge I didn’t think we would get this far honestly. Scowlin’ Jack seems to at least be trying.
And this is in DC, not bumfuck Florida. The judges on this circuit, and the appeals court, have generally been acting with dispatch since the appointment of a non-coward to drive this.
Is this derived directly from the data reddit stored/created or is it a reconstruction of some kind from observing the r/place output? I'm tempted to look at the table structures but not tempted enough to download 4 gigs of it just yet.
Unknown political consultant Who wants to wager #6 is Roger Jones Stone? Ty everyone for the correction. I blame the stout I was drinking and I guess I wanted to conjoin Roger Stone and Alex Jones
I tried to get into this show because I’d always see it mentioned on reddit as soo good! And I could never get through the first season.
It’s been a minute so I’m not gonna be as accurate on details of what I didn’t like but generally it was the formula of each episode was dull and too serious, the overall story is not well formed to be able to get properly invested in it yet, and I don’t find any of it really interesting besides the smart guy behind the program and perhaps the program itself. Oh and all taking itself rather seriously.
So I guess how much does it really change, what about it makes it such a huge favorite that is still talked about? I’d like no spoilers or mild spoilers only if possible.
I also think that the first season is rather formulaic. But in S2 bigger themes/arcs start shaping up. The cast grows and each new team member (or antagonist) is given proper development, I liked that the show wasn’t afraid of becoming an ensemble. Also, they get a dog and as they lean a little more into light sci-fi themes, the show feels less serious or dull, in my opinion.
Hmm okay I did get as far as them getting a dog somehow. And I remember seeing an episode that felt like it was supposed to be big, like mid season finale or before a break for football or something to take the time slot for a few weeks. But I’ll say it involved a boxing ring and it overall felt a lot like a significant plot episode. I still found it dull obviously.
I appreciate your reply! I guess it just still hasn’t convinced me. Is there a spoiler you feel comfortable sharing that can be like… convincing but doesn’t ruin a ton? Heck what even happens that makes it good cuz it always sort of gave me the impression it flips a switch and suddenly hits gold (sort of like how everyone considers s4 of dexter to be gold, first season of some shows to be bad representations, etc) If you or anyone doesn’t mind. I’d really like to be able to get into it, I’m running out of multi-season shows to watch lol
Jesus, where do I even start lmao (in no chronological order) one antagonist becomes an ally, a major cop character dies, Elias returns, a second AI appears, the teams is being chased by said AI, the origin of the machine is revealed, etc.
Wow thank you! Actually I’m thinking maybe for whatever reason this just isn’t for me then. If I give it another shot I’ll jump straight to s2 and not try to pick up where I left off on s1. But the groundwork they laid isn’t enticing to me even knowing some key points now how complex it gets, I hoped spoilers would pique my interest and it didn’t. Thank you very much though you were really helpful actually. At least now if I try again I know how to adjust my expectations.
