Oh no, i take phone breaks between my shits. Usually when i’m shitting i’m figuring out solutions to the worlds problems, disproving well established theorems and stuff. However when i’m done shitting i keep forgetting the solutions so here we are.
I personally love being “overly competitive” in games. I want a mode of the game to do that in. That’s why I play ranked mode in league, where ARAM and Normal games are for the forfun players.
I like the Firaxis XCOM games because I can actually win.
However, the fact I do win also disappoints me. The originals have an unbeatable sense of hopelessness that if I do ever win, it will feel so much better. Kind of the same with Nethack. I’ve played easier roguelikes and won; but I have never beaten Nethack without cheating. If I ever manage to beat that legit, I’d absolutely lose my mind with feel good brain juice.
That’s impressive. I still haven’t been able to beat legendary ironman on XCOM 2.
I’d like to get into the old ones, but the UI is really dated and I’m having trouble figuring out what I need to do. Maybe I need to watch a short video or something.
Thanks! Saving this for when I get an opportunity. I know the old games are beloved and have some hardcore fans, so I really want to give them a fair shot.
Oh, tedium doesn’t bother me! Sometimes in XCOM 2 I spend so much time managing my base that I get mildly annoyed when I have to stop to go on a mission.
I think I just need to grasp what I’m supposed to be doing in the original.
That’s part of the game. Research in UFO Defense doesn’t always glean equipment, sometimes you get clues instead.
So if you play the game as intended, you don’t understand why the aliens are invading or where they come from until you piece it together throughout the course of the campaign.
But in 2023, you might just want to wiki all that stuff and no one would blame you!
We only got one week of winter where I live. To put that in perspective winter is anything colder than 20C (68F), used to have at least a few more. Summer is going to be fun.
What if herr Klaus was Barbie’s real father and Barbie had to invent Barbieworld and her alter ego perfectly happy girl to escape from the abuse from her father and all the horrible things she must have seen and heard during his career in the SS.
It would’ve been quite the plot twist when it was revealed that Barbieworld was all an insane fantasy world totally in her head and in real world she was catatonic in an insane asylum whilst in her mind she lived inside that fantasy.
That’s the XCOM experience! I love that it feels like a long drawn out war, where you can lose missions and territory, but sometimes still turn it around and win long term.
RimWorld sans mods is a great story teller:
My play allowed me to build a big colony within a mountain like in dwarf fortress, then I woke up an ancient terror like in df, but something unexpected happened when two of the remaining settlers, a kid and an old lady where able to escape.
I got them to escape the map, then resettle with almost impossible odds, with just the shirts on their backs, no food, tools nor weapons and the kid's just a kid.
Fast forward some odd 20 hours, their tribe was able to come back and re-take the base.
