BilboBargains , to askuk in Would it be possible to purchase a puffin crossing panel?

I lived next to the most dangerous puffin crossing in the UK (Whitley, Coventry). This statistic seemed unbelievable at first because the crossing doesn’t look dangerous but over the years I came to believe it. I personally witnessed the aftermath of four accidents and was curious about their origin. The way local people used the crossing was to walk up, press the button and walk across, often without looking at the road. There was a time delay of about a minute and as such the crossing was usually empty by the time the light was red and the cars were waiting for nobody.

Flax_vert ,

Puffin crossings cancel if the pedestrian walks off. You sure it wasn’t a pelican crossing?

What a weird point of view in the pic. I can tell this is in the bottom but I can’t figure out which roof this was taken from. Maybe a drone shot?

Shotgun_Alice ,

This was taken from the top of a hill. I would sometimes run by this place on my jog because I liked the view. If you want I can find it on google maps street view.

Edit: Found it, it’s a bit over grown in this image: street view

That’s pretty cool! I’ll have to check this place out.

gedaliyah , to insanepeoplefacebook in Sovcit says the coroner arrests the judge.
@gedaliyah@lemmy.world avatar

No, that would be insane. A coroner can’t arrest a judge. A coroner can only arrest sherrif who refuses to arrest a judge.

It’s called checks and balances.

IphtashuFitz ,

Unless the judge arrests the coroner first.

Olhonestjim , to insanepeoplefacebook in Here's a little something sovcit picked up but hasn't actually tried.

“Evidently” does not mean what they think it means.

Olhonestjim , to insanepeoplefacebook in The Balloons of Ancient Egypt

If only. It’s funny to think, but hot air balloons could have been bronze age tech ( they almost certainly never were). All they would need is a giant sack made from fine thread, a source of heat, fuel, ballast, ropes, and a basket. Totally doable, but it’s another one of those things nobody thought of until very late.

Whenever you find yourself thinking about “how to get rid of the others”, you’ve already taken a wrong turn somewhere like this.

intensely_human ,

Is this about getting rid of others somehow?

SoleInvictus ,

Although I think it’s fair to think about getting rid of those who want to get rid of others. Just make it a hard line: only those, no others.

Granite , to insanepeoplefacebook in A sovcit FAFO.

I saw my first SovCit plate in the wild yesterday! They also had a tinted cover over it, I assume to hide it. Such a lack of confidence, tsk tsk.

BonesOfTheMoon OP ,

Wow haha. I would love to see one but they’re not really a thing here I don’t think.

toasteecup ,

I also don’t seem to have them near me, but I might start carrying a hammer to break the tint of I see one. Sovereign citizens can get fucked and pay taxes.

m4xie ,

I think you could still get in trouble for that.

BonesOfTheMoon OP ,

Every time I’m in the US I look at every plate I can, but nothing so far. Upstate New York tends to be a bit more sane though.

toasteecup ,

Nova is as well, glad to know other places avoid the crazies

Granite ,

Yeah, debated trying to get a pic, but never had a chance given that we were both driving and I didn’t want to get too close to a truck that I was sure wouldn’t have insurance.

Psythik ,

I don’t get why they advertise themselves. You’ll blend in a lot more if you use a normal plate and simply never renew the registration. You rarely get pulled over for this and ticket is so minor that it’s easy to just ignore it and never show up to court. But more often than not the cop will just tell you to renew it ASAP and send you on your way. Be polite, apologize, don’t argue/mention any sovern citizen bullshit, and most importantly: don’t be brown-skinned, and usually they’ll just let you go without even so much of a warning.

polle ,

The thing is, they WANT to show that they are “special”.

Mmmm no? Seems it works

GitHub happened to backtrack about a minute after I posted it. Not that my submission had anything to do with that but I didn’t doctor the image. I had a fork of that repo and the e-mail notification that my fork was blocked was sent a couple of hours ago but I don’t check mails all the time. The backtracking happened to be in short succession of my submission by happenstance.

JackbyDev ,

Can you include the text of the email on the post for context? ❤️

That abbreviation was clearly cherrypicked because people wanted justification to name it after a bird. lol.

Funny business, we need to get them to move to Codeberg

baduhai ,

Nah, codeberg is just another company, this could happen there just as it did on gh, granted it’ll be less likely to happen there. They need to move to git platform controlled by them.

Eezyville ,
@Eezyville@sh.itjust.works avatar

Can’t wait for Codeberge to figure out federation on Activity Pub. Then other groups of people can host their own instance while we slowly move away from centralized repo hosts.

MigratingtoLemmy ,

That is brilliant, I really wish they do it ASAP
