Please tell me someone remembers Google wave and the insane amount people were paying on eBay for an invitation. (Sorry, just randomly remember it when I saw Google+)

z3n0x ,
@z3n0x@feddit.de avatar

Core memory unlocked. I don’t even remember what Wave was supposed to be, but people treated it like it was the Second Coming.

phampyk ,

It was some sort of collaborative platform for people working on projects or something like that

gravitas_deficiency , to fediverse in Dutch government starts own Mastodon instance as reaction to the instability of Twitter

Lol that’s awesome! I didn’t think governments would start doing that so quickly.

otvis great news. the use of Twitter by governments is why Twitter got so famous and could really punch above it’s weight class. Now I hope this Gaines momentum

I laughed so hard with your comment I think I woke people up.

Someone used to periodically fork my repo of a college assignment and change all the text to Chinese. I assume they were stealing it but I don’t know. I think their name was spikerman but I’m probably misremembering.

    RubberDucky ,

Thanks for your service to the Chinese 🫡

    flashgnash ,

Apparently the Chinese government has created their own “home grown” OS which apparently took 10 years and thousands of programmers and is basically just Ubuntu underneath

    JackbyDev ,

There’s been so much tankie discourse that when I saw this in my inbox I genuinely thought someone was accusing me of being a shill for the Chinese government or something lmao.

Google+ was too much of a copy of the existing social networks at the time.

I’m still a Google Reader orphan though.

2013 was a terrible year for media consumption.

Google killed the only thing about Google that I had any sort of true feelings for. It was exactly what I wanted in a feed reader. It almost killed my affinity to read the news during my commutes.

It was the same year that The Onion stopped printing paper copies, too.

It was also the year The Hangover 3 was released at the request of nobody, but I digress.

    RIP Google Reader.

    Coeus ,

I’ve seen the Hangover 1 a ton of times. I’ve never seen The Hangover 3.

Its sort of ironic how mosquitoes are at the very bottom of the food chain for most of the ecologies they inhabit… But at the same time, is the biggest killer (through the transmission of malaria and other diseases) of humans, who see themselves at the top of the food chain.

In reality, the food chain is more like a food cycle.

It seems to me that most posts/reposts on reddit are just for the fake internet points. But here on lemmy, people post just to keep the place active, & engage in some conversation.

    nekat_emanresu ,

They drown out the actual posts and we get a worst of both worlds issue :(

Kalcifer , to mildlyinteresting in People really do use Google Search to visit well-known websites instead of typing their names into the address bar

The data in that graph doesn’t show what your title is inferring. For one, the y-axis is relative, and not absolute. Secondly, your data range is set to the past week so this says nothing about how this method of searching is trending over any useful period of time.

I’m guessing most of the Beehaws at least have duplicates since they cut themselves off.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but that’s looking to have been a prudent option if they wanted to avoid bad actors at all costs.

Yep, due to the uncertainty on the durability of instances, I have created my main user on a small instance to help the distribution but also backups on bigger ones.

To be counted as active, you have to have commented or at least liked a post/comment, IIRC. So if you’re hopping around from one login to another within 24 hours and actively engaging on them then yes, you’d be counted more than once in these stats. If you’re just lurking, no.
