I wonder if it tries to save a cookie then read it back? I don't really know how any of this works but that sounds like a way to detect it that's fairly infallible.

curiosityLynx ,

Writing a cookie and reading it back should work just fine even in incognito mode. It just gets deleted once incognito is closed.

Can we make up our minds, please?
In the 90s-2000s we had these shaded, almost 3D icons everywhere. Then we transitioned to a flat, minimalist style.
Give us something new and exciting instead of capitalizing on “retro nostalgia”

The 2000’s were very…amorphous. Like, remember the Cingular Wireless blob dude? Or the MusicMatch logo? Not the black and white jagged thing, the orange blob and blue bigger blob? And how all personal electronics were strange plastic shapes painted silver and purplish-blue? And the world hadn’t gone insane yet?

platysalty ,

Yeah, I was like "what new logo?". I remember when the 2D logo was new and the 3D one was old.

Looks inviting… should take a dip… see if you can reach the island.

qjkxbmwvz ,

I know people in the swim community who do this somewhat regularly (though usually the other way — Alcatraz to Aquatic Park).

There are big organized events (e.g., Alcatraz Invitational) as well as privately organized events. Given shipping lanes and the bay’s tides, it’s definitely not advisable to swim it without support in a boat, and ideally, radio contact with vessel traffic.

That rate limit is insanely low, even for verified. I’m not verified, but I hit the limit in like 10 minutes of very distracted usage.

jayandp ,

Yeah, 600/800 sounds like a lot until you realize that includes all the stuff you’re just scrolling past in your feed or comments, not even clicking on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they even overlooked the fact that ads might count against that cap too. I’m no heavy user but hit that cap in less than 20 minutes of reading people reacting to the news.

There are rumors that Twitter is having a dispute with its cloud providers, that is why they need to limit bandwidth.

givesomefucks ,

It makes sense here.

He wasn’t serious about buying Twitter, but the FCC was going to force him because he accidentally committed to it legally and couldn’t get out of it

To make the deal he had to get loans with his other stock as collateral.

He could legitimately lose huuuge chunks of his wealth if Twitter goes under and he can’t pay the loans. And he has no idea how to make it profitable. No one’s figured it out, it’s likely impossible.

He’s used to making short term moves to drive up stock price, but there’s no Twitter stock price now.

He has no idea what to do, and his ego is too big to admit he’s wrong.

I’ve been using wefwef too, and its been working good so far. Its a little slow but I think thats more from the huge increase in traffic rather than an inherent problem with it

KittenBiscuits , to cooking in earl grey bundt cake

It looks absolutely delicious! Would love a link to the recipe if you’re able to share. Earl grey cupcakes with lavender frosting were always my favorite seasonal flavor at Georgetown Cupcakes. So delicate and subtle flavors.

Do you use a baking spray for your pan or shortening/flour combo? I sometimes use a spray on regular round or rectangular pans, but I found on bundt pans and fancier pans with lots of crevices, Crisco (shortening) dusted with flour releases the cake the most consistently. I have to be obsessive though and make sure I get the Crisco into all the tiny places. I used to apply with a pastry brush but now I just use my fingers. It’s faster.

original2 OP ,

I used this recipe with the followin changes:

  • 2 tbsp of this tea: what-cha.com/…/ceylon-earl-grey-black-tea (plus the amount needed to brew it for the glaze and syrup)
  • 2 lemons and one lime
  • 7 egg whites not 8
  • only put the syrup on after removing the cake from the tin
  • used metric ffs

I didn’t think this was differentiated enough to put it on my own website however

taj , to mildlyinfuriating in The price of a cinema ticket in this day and age. No wonder people aren't going to the cinema anymore.

Honestly that’s why we joined Cinemarks club. You get a ticket a month, plus another one for $1.99, and then as many more as you like for $9.99. with no fees. And you get discounts on snacks and drinks.

As a plex user with the whole -arr stack, I mirror your sentiment. Though I can’t help but also think that a subscription service like this that actually promotes you to get out of your house and go somewhere exists in a different category.

Like yeah, it’s not another FuckYou+. The process of getting your loved ones together (or soloing it) and going somewhere, sneaking snacks in and viewing a movie in a better set up than you have at home could be worth it. Especially if tickets are somewhat reasonable.

For me personally, I don’t think there are enough new features that I care for but I can see how many may enjoy it
