It delivers the same OK-ish experience no matter what file type or language I’m dealing with. Yeah it’ll never be as good as a dedicated Python IDE for writing Python, but I’d rather know vim than 5 different IDEs for Python, YAML, Dockerfiles, Rust, Latex, whatever I need to deal with today.
It just edits files and doesn’t hide internal state, intermediate files, etc to make my life ‘simpler’ (notepad is the same, so I guess this is more of a strength vs IDEs). When an IDE fails to align all of its internal moving parts just right to compile a project I know I’m in for an hour of figuring out which checkbox needs to be unticked in what sub-sub-sub-sub-submenu, I like it much better to have a “flat” experience of invoking a command line and getting an error message directly from the tool I am invoking.
Seems like the right side should be classic terminal tools like ed. Or any other cat/echo/etc where you change the contents of the file without opening it (or all of it) directly.
As @neuromancer suggested would you be willing to ban opinion/editorial pieces?
Also, can you clarify the no spam rule?
Currently, it is “No spamming: Please do not post the same content multiple times or post links to irrelevant websites.” yet I was banned for posting too many different articles in too short of a time period.
Thanks for the openness and desire to improve an important community on the fediverse.
“No spamming: Please do not post the same content multiple times or post links to irrelevant websites.”
While I did make many posts within a short period of time none of them are the same content and are all relevant websites. I am able to be active during specific times of the day so I post the world news articles when I receive them from breaking news sites.
I was banned because I was suspected of being a bot and asked to provide proof which I did and was unbanned, that is fair moderation in my opinion to try and keep out post bots.
I’m just hoping since the admins already had to step into this sub and remove the last top mod, you guys immediately re-adding that account as a mod again gets the whole mod team wiped.
If not, just another dead sub on lemmy.world, there’s better on other instances.
As far as I can tell there isn’t actually that much? The only instance that really hosts it front and center is lemmyNSFW, and thats pretty small compared to most other spots
