I was banned from the Anti-Work subreddit for questioning why someone in a picket line was dressed like the wish .com version of Che Guevara. He looked ridiculous, nobody else was dressed up, and they were picketing a fucking Starbucks.
I thought it was just a funny observation but the mods banned me after it got upvoted to top comment on the post lol
I was banned from /r/politics for posting the famous Kennedy quote, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."
The ban reason? "Glorifying violence."
I mean, I do glorify violence, I just wasn't doing so at that exact moment.

I was permanently suspended from Reddit as a whole for hate speech because in an /r/hockeyplayers “chirp” thread a guy posted a picture of his white skates and I asked if his husband had a matching pair.
It was insensitive, but that’s what chirp threads are for.
I’m just worried this marks then end of the glory days of free speech and the internet and the world will never be the same again.
Musk got a lot to answer for but I also respect him in a lot of ways.
Free speech is an ideal I would die for and I hate seeing it disappearing.
(Also pre preempting any American acktually reply. Let’s me make myself clear. I do not give a shit in anyway what your government has to say on free speech in this context. Free speech exists as a concept out there in the world it wasn’t invented and isolated to some sheet of paper some “Gods” wrote down 100 years ago, they don’t control what I think)
As long as I have been on the internet the ideals of the internet have been declining.
Which as I seen it were people working together to solve a common goal. Accessibility. Exchange of information. Discussion based where ideas are exchanged, dissected and people learn and grow.
Now this isn’t about twitter exactly because I have never been one for twitter. I’m much more interested in seeing ideas and views being valued for what they are, not for valuing the person and following their views. But the absolute disgust the common man has over a space where anyone can say what they want scares me. People only want to hear what they want to hear, they want to be controlled and those they disagree with silenced.
That’s why this marks the end of the glory days because one else is going to run a big site of free speech ever again. This was what I believe to be the last attempt. Maybe the fediverse will do something being less centralised but who knows?
He made a big show about free speech and he got slated for it.
No one is going to try that again.
I’m not sure what you aren’t getting. Did Musk talk a lot about free speech? Yes. Did he do things that were pro free speech? Yes. Did he get slated by a lot of people for both those two points? Yes. So why would anyone or any business try the free speech again?
All that above is an argument in isolation. I don’t see why that wouldn’t hold as a solid justification that free speech wouldn’t be tried again. What is confusing in that?
Has Musk done non free speech things? Yes. Was there a big outcry about it and people saying that is around and free speech is a goal? No, not really. People use it as a lolz got you thing. But as a fundamental argument of people copying that, people are for it. His lack of free speech has been seen as a good thing.
No. Again, he banned people for saying things he didn’t like. Not illegal things. Things he didn’t want them to say, including journalists who reported on the bannings. How is that free speech? Why is this not getting through to you?
Free speech the way you describe ended with internet 2.0. There is nothing about Musk’s Twitter that is free speech. He banned the word cis as a fucking slur.
Also if you would die for free speech why are you just sitting on your ass then?
I got permabanned as "antisemitic" for criticizing Israeli politics. That this is a quite common tool used by the Israeli government to shut down any criticism of their actions is nothing new. But to see this applied in a subreddit actually surprised me.
Used to get flagged as a suicide risk when interacting with the IDF foreign relations department. Saying things like the people in sheikh Jarrah deserve to live there.
Youtube search fix: This is not a extension but if you save this as a bookmark javascript:location.href=location.href+‘&sp=CAASAhAB’; in your browser it can be used to remove youtubes recommended / “people also watched” videos from a search.
To use it, search for something on youtube and then click the bookmark you have made and it will then reload the search page and only show listings for what you searched for and remove youtubes recommended / “people also watched" videos from the search.
EDIT: and a fancier option is to use Redirector, Request Control (or similar) to create a redirection from YT searches without the CAASAhAB query param to the one with it.
I have a friend with two daughters in their late teens, early 20s. I asked him the other day how they felt about climate change. He said they believed it was happening, but they don’t think it’s nearly as bad as “the media makes out”. He added, “You know, we went through the Cold War and fear of nuclear annihilation and that didn’t happen, so…” We were interrupted then so I didn’t get to yell at him. But I think a lot of people think that way. Pffft, probably won’t happen, news orgs exaggerating for clicks, someone will fix it etc etc. While shrugging at all the floods and fires and storms happening around the globe, and booking a cheap flight to Malaga. It’s exasperating!
Just a note, I think you’re taking their comment too literally. Like educate him in a friendly way. When you give shit to friends, it can be friendly. Different than giving shit to strangers.
If it helps to know, a lot of people around that age are also very aware of what’s going on. Many of us are also mortified at the thought of what’s to come in 20-50 years.
I think that every generation needs to get out and actually vote to if we want to have a chance at even reducing the damage. It should be more shocking to people that the effects of climate change continue to be worse than scientists predicted. What are we going to do if the 50-100 year climate prediction is also too optimistic?
I think that a lot of people might forget that they might still be around to feel the effects of all of this. I don’t know about you, but I’m really not looking forwards to dealing with the intense weather when I’m old and frail. It’s going to really suck for other at-risk groups, too.
Another side of the environmental concerns is being forgotten too often, imo. What are we going to do with all of these forever chemicals? The great lakes have recommended safe intake limits for fish caught there. There is mercury, PCBS, PFAS, and lots of other nasty stuff in our soil and water. There was a large amount of time where the industrial sector was practically unregulated, so a lot of things were dumped in bad places. If these things are known to cause severe health issues and reproductive problems in humans, they’re probably going to mess up animals too. We should also think about all of the disposal sites that may not have been discovered yet. I hope they are testing for that more now. My grandfather’s house was unknowingly built on land that was severely contaminated with TCE. They know now, but people lived there for years without a clue!
My laptop was bundled with McAffee’s garbage software, their uninstaller DOES NOT work. They have a tool to get rid of their software on their website but the links were down and when I finally downloaded it, it didn’t fully uninstall it. Revo uninstaller wasn’t able to get rid of it either, it’s like a rootkit! I was only able to get rid of it by contacting McAffee and talking to their tech support
