@SaltyIceteaMaker I installed miniflux, a rss reader, on it. Sadly android constantly kills the internet connecting when the screen turns off, so I can't use it as a server to access it from my other devices. I have tried everything I could find to prevent that from happening.
If your device has an AMOLED screen it should be basically the same as having the screen turned off. You could just disable the screen timeout and use FakeStandby to turn off all the pixels without actually “turning off” the screen
extremely, based on the testing by gamersnexus and hardware unboxed. even a 4090 can only get you 90-100 fps on ultra without upscaling (of which only fsr 2 is present, which is generally horrible in terms of image quality). performance drops off accordingly, if i’m not mistaken you have to drop to medium on a 3060 to get 60fps at a render resolution of 1080p.
based on the numbers we’ve seen, i wouldn’t recommend high settings on anything but a 40-series, on which you probably want both dlss and framegen (for which you’ll have to install a mod, thankfully those are already out). the combination of those two gives you a clean doubling in performance, although latency doesn’t improve compared to native rendering. on older nvidia cards, you’re stuck with regular dlss, and scaling down render resolution unfortunately doesn’t have anywhere near as pronounced of an effect on nvidia as it should be based on current testing.
amd cards have anomalously high performance in this game (which is kinda sus tbh), they generally perform on par with the nvidia gpu a tier above them (so an amd gpu that normally matches the 3060 would perform like the 3070 in starfield – or rather, given the lackluster visual quality, the 3070’s performance is currently pushed down to the 3060’s level, while amd is unaffected by this). there is also no raytracing in the game yet (even though we know they worked on it because they hired for that role, and because it’s 2023) so at the moment if you have an amd card you’ll have a great time in starfield, performance doesn’t suffer the same limitations, and the technologies you would miss out on aren’t implemented yet.
on the intel side, however, the game doesn’t run at all. most of the time you won’t even get to the menu, and if you do, rendering is completely borked. it is unclear yet if the issue is with bethesda or intel, but given that it’s an amd-sponsored game, the charitable interpretation is that they didn’t test on intel hardware at all or give intel any time to fix stuff, and the less charitable interpretation is that they’re intentionally locking out intel cards.
I’m on a 6700xt. I run the game at ultra and I’ve never had an unplayable dip at 1080p. worst i’ve had is like…40s in New Atlantis. Which is fine for ultra across the board for a non-combat area. N
yeah, that sounds like the amd performance thing. it doesn’t run anywhere as well on nvidia or intel, which, according to the steam hardware survey, is about 84% of gamers
really? so anti-competitive bullshit is okay now because it’s ✨the other side✨ doing it now. also let’s pay no mind to intel users who are completely locked out, there’s no reason amd would be highly incentivized to do that, right?
i despised gameworks while nvidia did it, and i despise the same bullshit when amd does it. this is not how you fix shit.
This won’t hold true if your RAM gets to the limit, and you end up creeping into swap space. If you do, everything becomes a potentially streamed asset! While certainly not ideal, you’ll feel it harder on a HDD vs. SSD. Remember, you need at least 16GB of RAM for this monster, which these days is basically standard on most PCs (and about 70% of all Steam users as of August have no more than 16).
I saw a massive difference, had my original target drive set as an hdd, could barely open a menu without a hangup, dialog and character face movements suffered as well.
I moved the entire file over to my ssd and it was a night and day difference. No lag issues anymore.
Look I get that private trackers are probably safer and have a mored dedicated community but personally I still love anyone that keeps it public and keeps the knowledge of torrenting open and available as a tool for new people to discover.
I just use the public torrents, I have an IP Blocklist, and I seed the shit out of the stuff I download if it’s got less traction on it.
I will probably find a private group or something once I realize my obscure watching habits leave me out of finding stuff unless I can literally find it physical or get lucky but for now I’m a free pirate.
Im gonna be honest i really don’t care about that. There is no sensitive data on my phone except maybe social media logins and i have a recent backup so🤷
@SomeBoyo What "long term support"? Official GrapheneOS releases for a device end when the official Android support ends because they don't support hardware where the firmware is not updated anymore. Or did that change recently?
@SomeBoyo Yeah that's the normal devices guarantee you also get with normal android on pixel devices. So in terms of longevity GrapheneOS doesn't offer any advantages. There are other advantages of course.

Not really. People’s threat models differ, some just want to escape Google’s spyware without also requiring your device be a portable iron mountain. Some may also just want the additional control GrapheneOS provides for restricting permissions of apps, or their unique play store handling etc.
GrapheneOS has a ton of positives besides its security IMO.
For me it’s just a little saddening that their secure focus conflicts with extending the life of mobile devices. Although really that’s something that probably won’t change unless we get a truly open source mobile platform, with firmware development out in the open.
that’s fair I suppose, I wasn’t saying not to use it, just that it is worth noting. these strict security policies are what makes mobile platforms much more secure than desktop platforms. I typically use my phone for security sensitive tasks because of this, so I tend to care a lot more about this stuff. if you have any banking info or password managers stored on the device, be careful.
I’ll admit, it is pretty unlikely anything to happen, though. always just better knowing.
It targets that because those old “insecure” SDKs allows people to use their system as something that isn’t a toy. Newer sdk versions refuse to run code that wasn’t included in the apk
Mobile platforms like android and iOS (more specifically GrapheneOS), are leagues ahead of desktop operating systems in terms of security because of these strict policies. and besides, you are treating untrusted code as untrusted code. I don’t see the flaw in that logic.
sure, they could use more apis for accessing system directories and stuff like that securely, but that’s not really in scope. this is for end users. not field deployment on an sbc for something.
Oh you just gave me an idea. I have the old pc of my grandma wich i wanted to turn into a personal server for various use cases. With ssh i could control it from my phone
There is a project for Debian too, but I don’t have root so I did it in proot. Works, but I couldn’t manage to start a VNC server for the life of me due to a complete lack of proper permissions and the lack of an init system.
