I am on a rural island and it’s really the only option I have. If I lived in a city (as I have before) then I would definitely drive and shop locally because it’s cool and fun to do so.
Depends on what I need tbh. Comics? Got three locals, and if they’re out of whatever back issue I need than mycomicshop, then ebay, then amazon if they are the only ones with it in stock. Books? Local bookstores or direct from publishers, then same pattern with the comics if need be. Records? Local shops or discogs. But electronics or general “life” shit, my “locals” are best buy and walmart, fuck them too I might as well order from amazon at that point.

I tried replaying Mario 64 on an emulator, and it made me realize what I really miss are the friends I had and the place I was in my life, moreso than the game itself. Memories are nice, but there’s no going back. At least, that’s what I’ve found.
Yes, it’s a bad game. You’re allowed to like it anyway, I love it as well. It is charming, and I have fond memories with it, but it has pretty major technical and design flaws. The tag barrel system and the ability to only collect certain collectables as certain kongs (namely the blueprints) adds hours of pointless backtracking. Then there’s also the fact that it barely runs on the n64 and lags all the time. Rare introduced a crude delta time implementation that sped up the player’s movement to compensate, but that causes all kinds of jank and issues with the collision. A common saying in the speed run community is that “walls are optional” in DK64. Now from what I understand, you do have to try to clip through a wall, but not very hard (and I have seen people clip out of bounds accidentally in certain areas as well).
If you must play that game nowadays, I recommend using the “tag anywhere” patch, which lets you switch kongs with the dpad, and the “free trade agreement”patch, which makes it so blueprints and golden bananas can be picked up by any Kong. And play it on Project64. It cuts out most of the lag which circumvents most of that weird speed up jank, in addition to just being a smoother experience.
When they say that, they often mean it… as a fucked up narcissistic family with them on top, expecting the “children” to scramble around and hurt each other to please him.
The advertising-thing always baffles me. Are you willing to pay for each and every service you just use completely for free? If not, you shouldn't see advertising as a "scourge".

Online advertising nowadays is extremely obnoxious and annoying, and serves to track you, too. Add the fact that ads are free real estate for malicious actors to do whatever, and I think you can agree that they are a bigger problem than they should be.
I genuinely wouldn’t mind ads if they were unobtrusive and not tracking me, but that’s not the reality.
Don’t forget about malvertising, that’s probably a more imminent danger. If Google and other ad companies don’t give enough of a shit about user to actually filter out malware ads, why should I give enough of a shit about their revenue to not use uBO?
I have an issue with advertising. I would rather have an internet with much less services and pages. We all say how much we don’t need social media right. So tear it all down. Remove and create a hostile net to advertising and marketing. Steer it back towards hobbyists and open source nerds making GeoCities pages. What do we lose?

The crux of all the problems we all have with the internet is advertising products. It’s what introduced all the data harvesting. It’s why we have so much censorship. Its why all webpages and content is all the same because they all try to capture the last successful creator that sold ad space. Its why the internet is just one big data harvesting billboard that is now spilling over into the real world. So fucking kill it all. Reject marketing and advertising and lets get back to what the internet should have always been. The internet needs to be Snake Plissken’d
