I’ve officially had enough of these “my brother in christ” memes.

ReplicantBatty ,

My brother in Christ, let people enjoy things :)

That subway sub is a lie…

All Subway subs are lies. The “bread” has so much sugar in it that it’s officially cake.

For me Nextcloud AIO works. Still I don’t like how “unstable” NC is. There’s always something that does not work in any setup. Wish it was more stable or there would be a better alternative. For me it’s videos. But only those that are MP4 and have their moov atom at the end of the file. They can’t be played.

It’s a headache. Set up Ente Photos just for that. Good side effect is that the images from my family and myself are stored E2EE encrypted on the self hosted Ente Photos instance.

tyo_ukko , to programmerhumor in Is this a graph?

Do I understand this correctly, that the first astronaut’s realization is that all data structures are graphs?

If yes, that doesn’t make much sense. How is an array a graph?

ReginaPhalange ,

One could make the case that we can transform an k size array to a k-vertex-connected graph

Because traversing from one element to any other element is an O(1) operation using index arithmetics.

Same for n dimensional matrices.

That is DIN font, condensed and probably boldened. DIN is royalty free and one of the clearest fonts you could use on any font size. I love it, and I am not a fan of many fonts. Recommend you check Go and Etoile font families too, royalty free.

What’s the local take on rationalwiki then?

Gradually_Adjusting ,
@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca avatar

I can’t speak for others but I’ve come to see the Less Wrong / hardline rationalist crowd as having had some interesting ideas despite the Sam Bankman Fried of it all. Rationalwiki can be rather snarky, but can be a good resource.

davel , (edited )
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

Less Wrong is brainworms, as are the effective altruism and longtermism movements. US tech industry oligarchs like Musk, Thiel, and SBF (as you mentioned) are closely associated with these movements. Look into Less Wrong’s Eliezer Yudkowsky. Podcasts Tech Won’t Save Us, This Machine Kills, and Team Human have covered these movements, their movers, and their associated tech billionaires extensively. Some are grifters like SBF, and some are outright fascists like Thiel.

@Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca avatar

I was content to damn them with faint praise and save everyone the hassle. EY is a reasonably good writer who repackaged a lot of good ideas (Kahneman et al) and came up with a lot of less impressive original ideas (all the parts you’ve highlighted, many more). His most enjoyable work was fiction.

Hey now. That “emerald mine in apartheid South Africa” but is not true at all. He benefited from being the son of a rich white guy in apartheid South Africa. The emerald mine was in Zambia. He materially benefited from colonial rule in TWO countries.
