Of my last 4 workplaces 3 of them used Linux, only one Windows. Guess which was the shitty one? Where everything needs 10x longer, and nothing worked.
The ones running on Linux also allowed MacOS desktops, which many liked. Linux definitely is a better and cheaper solution than Windows for the workplace, but you need technical expertise.
Linux has always been my go to for that specific use case as well, and I honestly have very little Linux experience. Linux just makes bizarre half broken hardware, like bad ram, work.
Correction: POP!_OS has their own APT deb farm that has the latest hardware stack. This includes the proprietary 535 nvidia driver and later as well as the kernel and mesa.

Nouveau is the libre driver for Nvidia on GNU/Linux with Nvidia slowly segregating their proprietary driver into a firmware blob.
Elementary OS didn’t work for me (broke during install – people online said it was video drivers), and on mint and Ubuntu gaming wasn’t working exactly right. In pop os 85% of my games run though
The first thing I installed windows on was an discarded office tower that I had to put new memory And hard drives in. Shit was ancient and specifically did not want anything but windows installed on it. Installed Linux anyway. Works great. No specific hardware
School will never be as interesting as a phone. Your teacher will never be as entertaining as an influencer. Your textbooks will never be as entertaining as your feed. What families and teenagers have to understand is that education is a choice. If you want to learn, you’ll probably have to put your phone down for long periods of time to actively listen and learn. It’s difficult. It tires you out. It’ll frustrate you. But you will eventually learn.
Then again - when I look at home prices and inflation, I understand young people’s feelings of futility.

As a former young person that came from poverty and is finally buying a house in a high cost of living area, go read “so good they can’t ignore you” it might help with the figuring out!
I don’t think it’s just a feeling of futility - it’s true phones can be distracting and offer more potential entertainment, and it’s true learning can sometimes be a slog. At the same time, learning can be fun and engaging, and phones can offer access to a wealth of information (of highly varying quality, admittedly).
Concentrating too hard on mere academic success as gauged by metrics like school grades is undoubtedly discouraging for a student who only goes to school if they are told they must.
Tiktok cannot do it better. Tiktok is an app designed to hold attention. If you are more engaged by cat videos than geometry tiktok will not try and show you geometry
that would just be a new app and why would tiktok cooperate with that. There isn’t as much money in that area and even if there was an educational app kids would go on tiktok instead of it
people learn things all the time despite phones existing. the issue is not solely being more entertaining. people need to find their learning meaningful and aligned with their own interests and goals. students don’t, and so they go on their phones. go to a college classroom and you’ll see people more engaged on average. still far from perfect, and that system is broken in many ways too, but people are at least studying something they chose and are presumably interested in.
“I’m really rooting for you to figure this out” rings hollow. we all need to be part of the solution. gen Z feels like it’s carrying the expectation of fixing literally every societal problem right now and it sucks.
Heck, forget rare items, I even hoard stuff thst isn't rare. The only thing I use most of the time are things that cure ailments, healkng stuff and revive pots when needed.
But I also have the tendency to overlvel so I don't need much else. Why use strategy when raw firepower does the job?

I was all kitted out. Rocket launchers, full deagles, you name it. I used my little starter pistol all throughout this fight on the tower that I thought was leading up to the very end… only to have credits roll while I sat there with a full fat armory of glorious destruction - forever unused.
The post if overall very naive and while I do agree with using Linux for IT work he doesn’t give the best point either.
First of all, the customization. A lot of Linux users LOVE to point this out but 1. it isn’t for everyone 2. it won’t be compatible with every softwares. While modern Linux OS’s tend to be well tailored for devs due to most the work being command bases and having version control, it will not work out for everyone either as for a lot people it won’t be convenient. Most users just want an out of the box and ready to use OS rather than a never ending mess of fixing and customizing stuff.
Second, and the most stupid thing from this post, is that Linux will never have any malwares due to it being “well secured”. The reason why linux malwares aren’t viral is because about 3% of people using a computer in the world use linux, even less for work considering that a lot of these people use SteamOS for playing games. Other than that, Linux is a kernel, It runs code. So on this basis Linux is as vulnerable as windows. And considering the biggest attack vector isn’t some fancy exploits but someone sitting on chair in front of his computer, you can guess that Linux isn’t out of risk of any cyber attacks.
You get an IT staff that is MS and Windows certified, what sort of answer do you expect them to give? As far as IT staff where I worked, they often had issues with resolving Windows problems say nothing about Linux. Generally for Windows, I had to get to level 3 support before they knew anything. Even then I often had to tell them what needed to be done rather then them actually knowing. Some of this is lack of skill, some if it is under staffing, some of it is restrictive processes, and some organizational issues. You had to know how to work the system on one hand, and which issues just to not waste time on. Not saying they did not try hard, but without facilitation their results were often insufficient.
That does not mean you cannot use Linux however. Just means the main IT group does not support. We had a separate group that ran the Linux compute cluster we used. I also typically always had a Linux VM on my workstation too to use FOSS tools. Not sure that would be allowed these days since IT has gotten nuts about security, and with that they have generally grabbed a lot of power regarding what can and cannot be done on “their” hardware and on “their” networks. You can also get exceptions to a lot of those rules if you can justify it and if your management is willing to run it up the flag pole. If not, your working for the wrong people.
This feels like it was written by someone who hasn’t done sysadmin of a Windows network in a long time. Everything is online and is almost always one click now. Provisioning, removing permissions, updating email filters, adding users. Each item is so much easier now than it used to be. I loving running my PopOs install but let’s not pretend that SysAdmin is the 90s nightmare it once was.

The point is that All Lives Matter is also in ‘poor taste’. About 250 Black people are shot by police every year, so there’s been well over 5,000 Black people killed since 9/11—yet the same people who give that tired old ‘all lives matter’ line are also the ones who say ‘never forget’.

Its called drawing parallels. The meme is saying that people who said ‘All Lives Matter’ as a response to ‘Black Lives Matter’ would be like saying ‘All Buildings Matter’ on September 12th 2001.
The shock value is the point. It’s supposed to juxtapose how the #alllivesmatter people feel about 9/11 VS deaths at the hands of police. The point of the meme is NOT that those 3000+ lost are not valuable, rather that #alllivesmatter is insensitive, not the point, and not useful.
I live in a house and I’ve never been hit by a Boeing 767. I don’t get why the World Trade Centre didn’t just follow the zoning laws and make itself small around planes. It knew planes were there and it CHOSE to antagonise them.
Skyscrapers are grooming my children to be lawyers. They see this skyscraper flaunting itself in public and they want to work there. They think “I’ll be so free if I can just look out over the entire city”, that “I can be an individual who defines the skyline”. Well kids, 9/11 happens if we let this continue. It’s a war on our traditional ideas of buildings and the bible says we shouldn’t build tall towers.
