Iirc some moderators are actually paid, not by reddit though. Like Indie Stone, the maker of Project Zomboid, pay for moderation team on reddit. But that’s just a drop in the ocean.

TWeaK , to reddit in ...

The moderators who run much of the site are not paid directly, but they’re definitely in league.

Powermods took over reddit a long time ago. Hell, I’d go so far as to say reddit secretly promoted r/the_donald and other extremist subreddits, and had a direct hand in getting him elected.

Corgana ,
@Corgana@startrek.website avatar

they’re definitely in league.

They’re really not. I got to interact with many of them during the vaxxhappened protest and I got the impression that they were largely rather timid people. I do think that Reddit management is happy with the arrangement though, because it means they can abuse the mods knowing they won’t rock the boat.

The situation around the Donald is probably true, but the most telling thing is when they replaced the top KotakuInAction moderator in order to keep the subreddit not-private.

ArmoredThirteen ,

Got here before me lol. Seriously though it’s ridiculous. I basically feel like I have to pee 100% of the time and I’m just guessing if I actually have to go or not. Can’t wait for surgery and not having to be on spiro anymore

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah, that sounds about right. Lol.

And if you can get surgery, I’m really happy for you! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get it. It’s just too expensive… :'(

ArmoredThirteen ,

Assuming my life doesn’t collapse again like it did last year, I have surgery in June. I’m lucky to have the job and the insurance that I do. Even with really good insurance I’m dropping thousands of dollars regularly and I haven’t even gotten to the surgery part it’s madness x.x

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yikes! 😬 That’s a LOT of money!

ArmoredThirteen ,

So because insurance and hospitals are a mess I have to be in a self pay agreement. The theory goes I cough up about $45k, do surgery, they bill insurance, insurance refunds the hospital, then the hospital refunds me. What might happen is insurance gives the hospital the middle finger and I’m out a down payment on a house worth of money then I get to sue everybody and see what happens. In hindsight I probably should have just done medical tourism but I didn’t have the capacity to figure that out at the time and now it’s a risk to my life if I go much longer without surgery

The other costs are flying out of state for large volume hair removal because I can locally only get like 1-2 hours a month since everyone is booked out. Also needing constant therapy because everyone needs increasingly specific therapists letters for me to get anywhere. Finally because I’m getting surgery out of state I need housing for a month so that’ll be like $2-5k depending where I can find

It’s all madness

EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted ,
@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yeah, trans rights in the US are an absolute joke.

Still, I’m happy that you even have $45k in the first place. That’s one of the reasons why I hate reimbursements. Sure, the net cost might be zero, but you still gotta have the money in the first place.

RustyShackleford , (edited ) to reddit in ...

I used to moderate an older forum site 2 decades ago, (the place is still up and running) they asked me to sign an NDA after realizing I never signed one.

Which seemed reasonable, until I realized, I was an unpaid employee, working in my free time. So, immediately quit and suddenly faced backlash from my fellow moderators in front of users.

Suffice to say, all mods had alt accounts that they used to psychologically torture other board members. This site was owned my a major television broadcaster. My point is, don’t ever work a job someone should be getting paid for.

Apple can’t catch a break. Either they didn’t do anything to help USB c come to market or they caused the massive pita that is the USB c spec.

They’re also on the USB-IF and co-developed Thunderbolt so even though it’s a great thing for compatibility, all of the issues with it are their fault 😂

Why delete the torrent? The point of torrenting is to use the file.

TheOneCurly ,

I use the *arrs to make a well named hard link to the file in my media library right after the download completes. Then they can be removed from the torrent client after appropriate seeding time/ratio.

brb ,

Because deleting the torrent doesn’t delete the file?

alehc ,

But if you are keeping the file anyways why not seed it?

ProgrammingSocks ,

Disk I/O on mechanical hard drives especially

MonkderZweite ,

What should i keep the iso i had to extract the setup files from around?

dessalines ,

To help others download the file. Its the point of torrenting, to share.

Tippon ,

Lots of people don’t have the storage space to keep every piece of media that they download. Once it’s been watched or listened to, it’s deleted.

Depending on the torrent, it’s faster to consume it than to seed it.

DreadPotato ,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

No point in keeping the torrent if I no longer have the file. Unless it’s something I know I will re-watch/use multiple times, I delete the file after I’ve used it.
