It isn’t hard to sign up for. No one is saying that is the case. It gets confusing when people start talking about adding subscriptions from other instances and how you can copy and paste the link and subscribe. That right there is where 95% of the people on the internet stop caring.
If the developers of Lemmy and the wider Fediverse ever get that fleshed out in an intuitive way I think popularity will go pretty fast.
That and long term if there is a way for information to be collectively backed up so that if some owner shuts down an instance everything isn’t gone.
What is this about having to copy and paste a link to find subscriptions from other instances? I literally just pull up the community browser and set it to “all” and then search.
Agreed. It still is a pain to follow subs on other instances, especially within Jeroba. I know you’re supposed to copy the !sub into the search field, but it never comes up.
It seems to me that community choice in Lemmy is far less important than community choice is in Mastodon. In Mastodon you subscribe to some people or maybe some lists but you’re largely dependent upon what types of local traffic are happening. I couldn’t reliably fill my feed with interesting people in Mastodon. With Lemmy, I’m filling my feed with interesting communities, while the content with a lot of these communities is still kind of light It’s at least enough to keep me relatively interested. I don’t have to rely on the local splarg to keep me entertained.
Maybe a third to a half of my lemmy subscriptions are remote I’ve only blocked a handful of idiots. The experience thus far as better than Reddit honestly.
I was there last week. I followed the tech news people when they finally made the mass exodus in the wake of twitter. It’s more or less just full of news and my local community theme. The biggest pain is when a guy who posts news I love just boost the crap out of everyone. No, I want to see his articles, not how much he likes that person’s cat pictures.

One of the biggest things I dislike about Twitter, too. I don’t care what these people retweet or whatever. I want to see their posts. It’s a pain in the ass to navigate through a flood of retweets.
Oh they’re absolutely tankies, dessalines website is crystal clear on that. To me this is simply a test of the fediverse. If it works as intended, the devs political orientation shouldn’t matter. We’ll see.
Leninist. Marxist Leninist is largely an oxymoron as Lenin just sort of ignored a lot of core things Marx discussed. Specifically going against many of them. There are many different Marxism derived ideologies that aren’t ML and don’t sympathize or apologize for the atrocities of ML or capitalist regimes. Please don’t lump them all together.
As far as Leninist go. I agree with you 💯% though.
When it comes to physics Einstein has yet to be proven wrong for just about anything. When it came to politics and human nature. Einstein was not known to be any great judge. And even then. That’s feinting praise. Einstein knew how to throw shade.
I just get kinda pissed off at comments like that because I’ve been using lemmy for like 3 years now and they’ve never done something wrong but now there are some people that just say stuff about them that’s not even true. Your comment wasn’t the first like that after all.
OP is annoyed because lemmy.ml devs are left-leaning and don’t encourage bombing muslim countries, killing gays or locking black people in areas abandoned by the government.
I’m using OP6 and for 2023 it’s rocking like a brand new phone. Everything works exactly as I want and I rooted and installed AOSP 13 so I’m pretty much up to date, about the new ones I’m not quite sure what to say; far as I heard the new OnePlus is Nothing Phone
Got an OP6 back in 2019 and definitely has that new phone energy. Sadly I suffer from LinusDropItis and so my phone has developed a cracked corner that is now essentially a crack in the corner of my heart. Thinking about 11, but would rather stick with OP6 until the battery or screen goes. This warrior has lasted me longer than my last 3 phones combined. Carl Pei was 1/2 of the Oneplus founder’s team together with Pete Lau. He left Oneplus/OPPO in 2020 and announced Nothing Phone in 2021. I just had my hands on a Nothing (1) a couple days back, and I really wanna like it, but the lights just seem too strange for me.
Honestly same, Nothing Phone looks amazing in photos but irl? I don’t know men, I don’t like alien lights at 3 am from Twitter but in the spectrum of new design, improvements and specifications per-total it’s something new
Companies want your money and nothing else. Any wokeness you are perceiving is a strategy to make the most money out of their customer base.
Companies pandering to “wokeness” have done the math and figure more of their customers support it than not. This isn’t really wokeness, it’s pandering.
Christianity killed civilised debates. They took over the economically conservative side and turned it into the party of intolerant theocracy. Anyone who disagrees with them and their hate speech is l labeled as ‘immoral’ and ‘demonic,’ and immediately dismissed and shunned rather than logically debated. The emotional reaction to this hate (as expected) has also lacked logic, because you can’t debate a force that labeles decent morality and acceptance as evil, and calles evil, hatred, and bigotry “morality.”
Christianity by its very nature takes the Bible as the absolute word of ‘god.’ And the Bible is explicitly intolerant of homosexuality, LGBTQ+ rights, and religious freedom. To follow that religion is to be intolerant and label everyone else as demonic. To claim to follow it, yet be tolerant and decent, is to compromise on the very core of the religion. It is, at that point, not Christianity.
If you accept others, and support their rights, and do not think homosexuality and other religions are evil, don’t claim to be a Christian. The Christians will tell you that. Others will tell you that. Do not be afraid to reject a doctrine built on hate, and simply accept only some of Jesus’ words as those of a very wise man, not ‘god.’
To truly have free debate, to argue freely without Christian morality labeling dissenters as evil, we must remove Christianity from politics. And to do that, because of its very nature (that they must make others comply to ‘save’ them), it cannot happen until Christianity is dead.
Two buddies discuss what a world without a particular thing (one thing per episode) would be like. No color? No chairs? No numbers? They tackle these questions in often unapologetically unscientific, and always creative and hysterical ways.
