Omegamanthethird , to gaming in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

Yeah, I have a growing backlog. When I want to get back into a game, I think about if I'll remember what I was doing or if I'll remember the controls or if I'll ruin my save file.

What also hit hard when I lost my save file halfway through The Last of Us Part II. That game is hella depressing and intense, and I've struggled to go back through it.

All of that is compounded by the fact that I have some old comfort games that I play on my phone or Switch.

But recently, Theatrhythm and Final Fantasy XVI have got me back into the rhythm of things.

If people want to troll them they will just join another open signup federated instance. I can see them just defederating with everyone that has open signups.

Puzzle_Sluts_4Ever ,

I mean, this is more or less why the vast majority of social networks eventually require email addresses (and may outright ban gmails) or phone numbers.

Different sites have different user protections. And this is highlighting that the federated lemmy instances need to figure out what that will be.

Zxmon , to linux in is there a Linux alternative to windows 10/11 that is similar?

just go with something like fedora. It’ll be easy enough and you can do almost anything through graphical user interfaces.

+1 to Fedora, and if you want a UI that is very close to Windows I’d recommend the KDE Spin of Fedora as well.

Email?

Some mobile phones support group texting, which as far as I can tell is a preinvention of WhatsApp.

estebanium , to linux_gaming in What headphones are you all using while gaming on Linux?

I use an AKG K702 with Easy Effects.

Is there a gaming community? I found one on Beehaw, but don’t know if it will work fully

You can subscribe to them all via your home instance (if your and target instances are not federated). I.e. you, most probably, do not need any multisub feature at all.

dub ,

Right but if I just wanted to see Android stuff from all the other instances and communities how would I do that?

Wouldn’t my home screen just be clogged up with all of the Android instances and communities as well as everything else I’m subscribed to? What if I just wanted to see Android stuff?

ExoMonk , to gaming in Have you ever felt overwhelmed by how to spend your gaming time?

This happened to me when I was streaming. My favorite hobby became like a job. I only played while streaming and the time I was putting in outside of work was kind of killing me. Working a full day, coming home to do dinner and time with my wife and then start streaming by 8pm a couple days a week. It exhausted me. At some point I started to skip days and then I just never went back. Now I play games as a form of entertainment like watching Netflix/Hulu. I do it for leisure.

Sometimes I miss it though and think maybe I should try and get back into it but so far I've just not.

I use Ice Cubes client on my iOS. And it has a feature called “Local timelines”. I just add an interesting instances there and read it without any problems, just like if it was my local timeline.

R4iNO , to books in eReader recommendations?

I’ve been reading pirated books on my Kindle. Kindle for the hardware, library genesis for the books. I buy the books that I enjoyed, After reading them.

Although my book sources are messed up, you can also read your legitimately bought .epub books on a kindle. Your question, “which e-reader”, isn’t the right question I think. The question should be, from where are you buying the books legally.

I wonder if I’m getting banned for advocating piracy… Let me check the rules and stuff…

silent_clash ,

Advocating piracy seems to be okay here as there is a piracy community. Where I need clarity is can I actuality link things other than magnet links?

R4iNO ,

Why do that and tease the big monsters? Keep a low profile.

dub , to technology in First Reddit API change, and now Twitter is rate limiting. Is this the implosion of corporate social media?

It’s clear that something is going on. At least for Reddit and Twitter, they need to make money. They’ve made that pretty obvious but it is curious why now. Facebook and others didn’t seem to have this issue. YouTube sounds like google just Google

I’m not sure how Lemmy will last if it grows massively. But I’m here for a good time not a long

Laxaria ,

Wikipedia has done well for itself using donation runs and grassroots support, so if there are ways for instances to do similar the decentralized nature of this will work out ok.

Elsewhere the issue is many of these large services have grown to the size of effectively being a public good, but good luck maintaining a public good in a profit generating way as a private company seeking the next quarter’s growth.

dub ,

That’s a good point. Wikipedia isn’t a for-profit company so they don’t have to show insane profit every quarter in order to calm shareholders. I donate to Wikipedia all the time cause I appreciate what they provide.
