definitely not, the way it fits to harmony of the phone is awesome

@baronvonj@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah it just crashes on startup for me so I switched to LiftOff. Don't think I'll go back even after lemmy.world goes to v0.18.

Relaxxx , to android in What's your lemmy app of choice?

So far I’ve tried Jerboa, liftoff and wefwef. Being a RIF user for many years I feel Jerboa is closest to the UX but I am more comfortable with wefwef. Ask me again tomorrow as I will probably try other alternatives. This is like the good ole Linux distro hopping days when I tried over 30 distros before settling with KDE neon for the last 3 years.

ono , (edited ) to linux_gaming in What headphones are you all using while gaming on Linux?

I use a Plantronics headset. Sound quality is important to me, so I decided to try hardware from a company that specializes in voice comms. I found one on sale for a little more than the cost of two movie tickets.

I’m happy with my choice. My headset is smaller and lighter than any “gaming” headset I’ve ever seen, and strangers regularly compliment my mic clarity when I play team shooters online.

In case you want to try something similar, Jabra is another brand in that space.

mrginger , to selfhosted in Upgraded Proxmox 7 to 8
@mrginger@lemmy.world avatar

I did the same a few months ago and was extremely nervous. I have a 4 node cluster running 30 VMs in production. After migrating the VMS off of one node I quickly realized what a pleasure it was to do it. No muss no fuss. Migrated the VMs back and continued on with the other 3.

blackstrat OP ,
@blackstrat@lemmy.fwgx.uk avatar

That’s pretty cool that it worked so well. Does migrating the VM’s result in any downtime or is it a seamless cross over?

I waited a few days before upgrading as I wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to get stung by any teething troubles. Would have ideally waited longer but had an ideal few hours available to do it without the family being annoyed by any downtime.

applejacks , to nostupidquestions in ELI5 - So why exactly doesnt Biden expand the courts?
@applejacks@lemmy.world avatar

imagine creating a button that makes you win, but makes the process far more complicated.

now imagine, once you’re out of power the other guy can also push the button.

once pressed, neither side will ever stop pushing the button when in power.

BombOmOm ,
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

Yep. If the goal is to de-politicize the courts, court packing makes it exponentially worse.

Sproux , to piracy in Any VPNs comparable to IVPN and Mullvad by privacy, but also have port forwarding?

I switched to protonvpn recently and it seems pretty good, I was getting a lot of websites blocking me when I was using PIA and that seems to not be a problem with proton.

german OP ,
@german@pawb.social avatar

Personally I don’t trust Proton. I know I’m paranoid, but can’t be too sure about anything these days. To my knowledge MV and IVPN are the only ones with a nice privacy reputation. Shame they are cutting port forwarding

AnEilifintChorcra ,

Proton only started logging his IP after they were legally forced to do so, just like any other law abiding company would have to do.

Proton offers an onion site of Protonmail which the activist should have been using since he allegedly committed

theft and property damage, crimes - the latter two - that enable surveillance

this is a case of user error and bad opsec, not a company bending over backwards to share their users information. If you’re going to do things that are likely going to get you arrested, no matter how noble the cause, make sure you have excellent OpSec

Oddbin , to fediverse in In my opinion, having multiple accounts in different apps and instances is better than trying to combine them into the smallest amount of accounts

At the moment it does make keeping track of accounts, servers and feeds easier.i think long term though the Devs will crack it and then single stream browsing from all your accounts, servers and subscriptions will be the norm.

Nefyedardu , to linux_gaming in What headphones are you all using while gaming on Linux?

People always say to avoid gaming headphones, but gaming headphones are often the only ones made with built-in external mics. If I'm gaming, I need at least a decent mic. Internal headphone mics aint going to cut it, they are omnidirectional and have terrible quality.

Sure you can get the perfect set up with some high quality headphones and a separate recording setup but there are issues with this. Boom mics are the highest quality of course but they take up a ton of space and are unsightly. You need to get the perfect length of boom and hold it close to your face at all times... it's necessary for content creation but not practical for everyday playing. There are "mod mics" you can attach to the side of your headphones, but there is only one company that makes them (Antlion) and both of their products in this line are terrible. I've had nothing but issues and they are not cheap.

So in the end I settled for the Sony Inzone headphones and they are fine. They are ugly as sin and the sound quality is obviously lacking, but it's way better than most in the category. You can connect via Bluetooth but the dongle works OOTB on Linux. The headphones are poor without a firmware update, and that needs a Windows VM and it's a bit tricky. The update will disable the USB device at points, so you will need to re-enable the USB passthrough when this happens. Pretty easy to do with GNOME-Boxes.
