Photograph Backups with Immich; just playing with this for now. Constantly have problems running it to do with not connecting to Redis or PostGres :/ MQTT Server with Mosquitto for some custom IoT devices. VPN with WireGuard. File Syncronization with Syncthing; to/from phone and other computers. Torrenting with Deluge and Deluge Web.

I joined to learn, still not self-hosting anything, but I intend to use an 11yo Compaq laptop (i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD) as a server while I’m still practicing. I intend to self-host a lemmy instance and a nextcloud server.

My nickname has been “Crash” for most of my life because I’m a very accident-prone person. Over the years I’ve learned to slow down and move with purpose by taking a split second to think “what am I about to do here?” before taking action.

I notice when I’m in a rush I tend to stumble and drop things a lot so I try to avoid that by planning ahead when I have time. This usually means getting seasonings out while the pan is still heating up, getting my things around for work the night before, or just generally preparing for what I know is coming.

I’ve also learned to NOT stand up quickly near cabinets (I have scars from this lesson), push doors all the way open if I’m passing through (it’s always that one belt loop), and not leave things lying around in the middle of the floor (some dog toys are worse than legos). Just generally trying to be more aware of your surroundings.

I’m gaming on a NUC 11 Extreme kit with a Sapphire Pulse Radeon 6700 XT running ChimeraOS.

Currently it is doing really well, though some games appear to not be using anti-aliasing and I’m not sure why. But aside from that I am super impressed with how well Proton and Lutris have come along!

My all time favourite subreddit hands down.

But as soon as my GDPR subject access request has yielded my reddit data to me I’ll be deleting my account there and saying goodbye to 9 years and half a million fake internet points.

It definitely feels freeing and lemmy definitely feels more involved, more intimate, and less shitty.
