My play order so far as been Elden Ring -> Sekiro -> Bloodborne -> currently playing DS1 remaster.
DS1 is definitely my least favorite so far, although it's not bad. Much much slower, and the challenge is in slogging through the levels with less challenging boss fights than later entries.
pretty unpopular opinion i believe, but i loathe them. they feel like installing apps from the windows store, but worse. i use them on steam deck and my laptop, but they often fail to launch with no feedback[^1], won’t accept drag&dropped files, store their dotfiles in weird places, take up much more disc space (and therefore take literally almost 10x as long to download), won’t inherit the theme (i think because plasma stores the gtk theme in a non-standard place), etc. they feel like they’ve been designed to flout what os developers have built up over many decades and are just a struggle to use.
[^1]: on steam deck particularly (so i know it’s not a configuration i’ve screwed up) no flatpaks will launch unless i launch them twice. even after that, there’s a long delay (~1 minute) and then two instances launch. i know this sounds like i should just wait until the first one launches, but that doesn’t work
The Flatpak theming issue is really annoying, yeah. There’s a rather limited pool of GTK themes to choose from in Flathub, but as long as you’re running one of those themes in your DE (assuming GNOME or other GTK-based), themes will inherit. Can’t speak to KDE as I haven’t used Plasma as primary.
Other than that, Flatpak has been great. I use it reasonably heavily on a laptop that’s slower than a Steam Deck (Ryzen 5 3500u, 8GB DDR4, 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus) and haven’t run into performance issues on multiple distros — EndeavourOS, Pop!_OS, LMDE, Fedora, an early version of Vanilla OS, and most recently Debian 12. On my desktop I don’t feel a performance difference between Flatpak and native.
It’s more limited because it’s just WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram but Element One does the same thing (and no waitlist): element.io/element-one
I use it and it’s great - it’s “just” a paid service that runs on a Matrix server with the relevant bridges running. This is actually the same technology underneath that Beeper is built on (Beeper uses all the matrix bridges to do its work).
I was looking into setting up Matrix with all the bridges I need (Discord, Telegram, iMessage, SMS) but wasn't quite sure how to proceed. Since I got onto Beeper, the configuration has been pretty simple, and was pleasantly surprised I didn't need my Mac Mini constantly running to get iMessage working.
Failed to get general sale Foo Fighters tickets for Cardiff, which is fine. Already bought presale tickets for Manchester but its a much longer drive. Ah well, will just have to stay overnight instead. Anyone else get tickets?
It was £170 for two in Manchester. Was cheaper than I was expecting, plus they’re not going to be playing forever or go down in price. I’d rather spend the money over always regretting not seeing them.
At the moment, R***** and their API are popular words on Lemmy. If I were tired of reading those two words, we have the technology to have them omitted or censored on our individual screens.
That other people have APIs doesn't matter. There's presently a business who's API is annoying news. The guy would rather block too much rather than not enough.
I have 4 Mastodon accounts, 1 on Vivaldi (as I use this browser), and 3 on Polish servers. My main one is on 101010.pl (largest Polish, can read formatted posts), other ones are on pol.social and mastodon.com.pl. I was also on calckey.pl, but Calckey appararently was not ready for use - the instance is now closing down. I have a Polish /kbin account (on karab.in), and WriteFreely and Mobilizon accounts.
The problem is they don't have to lie about how bad Democrats have been for the people. (Not that Republicans would be any better, mind you.)
Most Americans have seen their cost of living jump 30%-50% under Joe Biden, and Biden's response is to send $100 billion overseas to fight another country's war, not to give a dime of aid to people here who actually need it.
Are you seriously claiming that Ukrainians do not need help? Try losing your kid to a bomb on a pizza restaurant. Wonder how the real estate market in Mariupol is.
So does Yemen, but you know what has the US been doing? Helping Saudi Arabia starve and decimate the country for the last eight years.
And your fellow Americans are being neglected in order to fund all of this. I'm not sure why it's such a radical notion that maybe, just maybe that hundred billion should be used to benefit our own people instead of funding yet another war.
I haven’t been here much since I joined last week, but one thing I noticed is I’ve barely seen any typos on Lemmy. While I definitely don’t mind seeing the occasional typo, the number of spelling mistakes was getting annoying, and it’s gotten progressively worse over the last year or so.
Since mankind mostly decoupled from natural evolution, we wouldn't develop other mouths. But our look would still change because the jaw muscles wouldn't be trained and maybe our facial expression could become very underdeveloped.
Met our new neighbours yesterday and we’re very happy to discover that they seem cool and also are quite young, which is a rarity in these parts. Trying not to get my hopes up about potentially making new friends, but hey you never know.
Of course since they’ve just moved in, they’ve already warned us there’ll be a fair amount of DIY noise (no problem with that, moving house is lots of work and they don’t do it too early or late) and I suspect that will ramp up at the weekend so we’re planning a trip out somewhere quiet with a picnic instead of just loafing indoors like we usually do.
Less socially awkward lemmings and kbinauts of UKCasual, tell me, is it weird to maybe invite new neighbours round for a cup of tea or something and get to know them a bit? Is that friendly or creepy? I honestly can’t tell.
It’s not creepy or anything, but personally I’d prefer a more relaxed vibe like a bbq or a couple of evening drinks. Just make sure the invite is super casual, like “hey it’d be great to get to know you guys over a tea or coffee whenever you’ve settled” and then invite them again in 2-3 weeks or something.
My thought was that I didn’t want to just assume they drink, and also a bbq seems way more effort and therefore more pressure, but yeah I think you’re right about framing it as a “when you’re settled” thing, thanks.
I’m just overexcited cos I’ve lived here for ten years and managed to get to know like one person in the entire town outside of my partner’s family 😅
I can’t think of an occasion where it would be socially wrong to invite someone round for a cup of tea - but don’t ask me since I’m not not socially awkward.
My old neighbour tells me that the person who moved into our previous house has been known to chase neighbours down the street to insist they come in for a cup of tea. So I think there is a line here where it can become socially awkward.
Even as somebody who has never used, and will likely never need Apollo, I am really grateful for what he did. However unintentionally, I think he ripped the mask off how rotten the management structure was. It’s one thing to sell ads and collect hidden metadata. Pretty much all the apps do it. But the whole way Reddit treated him was beyond despicable.
Agreed. When I saw the Apollo thread, my first thought was ‘Nah, not even spez would do this’ but I choked on that very fast when I saw the e-mails, the audio recordings and everything. It was so blatant, so asinine, so horribly fucked up.
I’ve never used the Apollo app, but millions of people did and in stead of thanking him for all his work, reddit just stabbed him in the back. Can’t believe there are people still taking reddit’s side on this, it’s crazy.
