S22 has pretty bad battery life compared to the S21. I’ve not tried the S23, maybe Google Fi will buy me an upgrade for Black Friday again this year.

Performance wise I have no issues with the S22.

Silviecat44 , to fediverse in Elon doesn't want you browsing Twitter

When I gave twitter a go to try and fill the Apollo shape hole in me I noticed the toxic algorithim and brain dead users so I am glad that I found Lemmy. I am just really confused as to what Elon is doing? He seems to be throwing money away for the fun of it.

He’s obviously playing 6-D chess, and us plebs just can’t see the bigger picture /s

MrFlamey ,

I have a friend who literally believe this. He’s so positive about everything Elon does. I don’t want to waste time arguing, so I just ignore it.

Elindio ,

The s23 has some of the best battery life I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of phones

emperorbenguin ,

I’m using the S23 ultra and the battery life is phenomenal, even at full resolution, framerate and performance.

legocorp ,

I moved from the S22 to the S23 and I love it. The S22 was truly awful when it comes to battery life. Turning on 120hz refresh would literally lower the percentage of the battery by the minute. The S23 is amazing, , no more battery anxiety knowing that at the end of the day I still have enough to keep me going.

EddieTee77 OP ,

Wow! I keep hearing the S23 is the way to go when you want better battery life. That is the most important feature, I’d say

Nausiyan , to showerthoughts in Why do we use base 60 for time and base 10 for everything else. Why has no one decided to integrate it.
@Nausiyan@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

You can blame the babalonians for that. They have a 60 base number system and was used for time and dates.

willis936 ,

Ancient Greece also liked highly factorable numbers. Plato called out 5040 being a handy population size for having many factors.

sadreality , to nostupidquestions in If beauty is tightly associated with facial symmetry, then why doesn’t everyone have their hair part down the middle?

Pretty sire people look for symmetry in face body BC it is indication of "health" "fitness for reproduction"

Hair is judged by different standard, style is not relevant to its health

Cap , to nostupidquestions in If beauty is tightly associated with facial symmetry, then why doesn’t everyone have their hair part down the middle?
@Cap@kbin.social avatar

I guess hair is never really symmetrical (think of curls and "flowing" hair) so you don't associate it with health and beauty like someone's face. Hair that is full and thick like the TV tells me hair should be is probably the sign of beauty we look for.

But what do I know, I'm as symmetric as a Salvador Dali painting.

I just stayed off the fediverse while new users signed up and jerboa is back and working for me on android.

Feels like it’s off to a solid start. Change can be good sometimes. I’m using wef wef and feeling right at home! I’m also watching all the apps.

Ultimately, it’s the users and mods they make the community … not a company. I’m also really rooting for them entire fediverse to conceptually take off!!

Random thought related to gold, but I wonder if it would be feasible to make some kind of fediverse tipping system that allowed people to give tips that showed up as something gold-like or award-like. Could be neat, but validating the payment when multiple instances are involved could be challenging without getting instances involved with payment gateways and finance regulations. I'm sure it could be done with crypto but that would probably be offputting to most people.

Hazewind ,

Could be a thing for individual instances. Broadly not Lemmy wide, can't wait for the first stupid Internet drama here.

Epicurus0319 ,

One month into my home instance’s existence (lemmy.world) and we’ve already had our inaugural hack and a few technical growing pains that broke several mobile apps for days

Thb_tx , to fediverse in Is there a way to personalize your feed?

My thought (but may be wrong) is to use All and block those I don't want. This (I assume) would allow me to see any new areas. It's tons more work but I think ultimately it will expand my areas of interest.

eldnikpw , to showerthoughts in If we call reddit users redditors, what do we call lemmy users

Fedizen, cause lemmy is just a part of the fediverse.

Kushi , to fediverse in BlueSky invite

I just recently heard of BlueSky. How is it different from Mastodon? Does it promise to improve on ActivityPub in some way?

Very_Bad_Janet , (edited )

BlueSky is a private social media app and a direct competitor to Twitter. It was created by Jack Dorsey, formerly of Twitter, who encouraged and endorsed Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter. (Maybe this was a brilliant double cross.) I think the one difference between Twitter and BlueSky is users of BS (ha, I wonder if they thought of this abbreviation when they named their app) can edit the algorithm on BlueSky.
