Personally, I think if it’s a video related to technology, it belongs in the technology community more so than the video community.

atrielienz , (edited ) to technology in [Meta] I suggest adding a rule to not post videos here.

There’s lots of technology channels on YouTube and it’s competition that do tech news that I feel are pretty relevant (gamerz nexus for sure). I wouldn’t want people to lose that just because some of us (myself included) prefer written formats to videos.

atrielienz , (edited ) to technology in Unpopular Opinion: Xitter going bad is the best thing that ever happened to the Web

Twitter is still influencing the rest of the web (look at its influence on reddit since Musk bought Twitter, and Spez started wanting to live in his skin). I don’t think we can just take the good without the bad and assume a net positive.

antmzo220 , (edited )

I used to find it utterly hilarious before I switched to Lemmy, how redditorshated twitterx and twitterx users, then would praise reddit and the reddit community lmfao.

atrielienz ,

Nah, as someone who came from reddit, we were generally a pretty terrible bunch even before bots basically took over. I don’t feel that Lemmy is much better but the platform’s overall practices seem to be better. My mileage with the community varies greatly from day to day.

A compromise would be to require a text summary of any video post.

henfredemars ,

My main beef is that I don’t enjoy watching video form content, but having a summary would be more than sufficient to quickly determine whether or not I would be interested in watching anyway.

Strongly agree.

I don’t see this as an unpopular opinion, but I do agree with it - at least here (Brazil) Twitter was evolving into a containment cage for nutjobs and morons, until it was blocked. (And it’s damn easy to find who’s who in the Bluesky diaspora, as the nutjobs/morons miss Twitter while the saner people are glad to see it locally gone.)

I dunno about this analogy. I think the doctor proved that with enough time, anything can become a door.

as there is already a videos community which would be more suitable for this.

So literally all videos should be posted in the videos community?

That sounds awful.

101 OP ,
@101@feddit.org avatar

Why?

helenslunch ,
@helenslunch@feddit.nl avatar

Because there’s absolutely no genre of video. If you want to browse random videos, go on YouTube. Link aggregation is for sharing specific videos of specific subjects.

101 OP ,
@101@feddit.org avatar

In that case, you are looking for a flair system for lemmy videos community, which would ease your concern.

I was a proud third party voter for a long time but changed my mind after watching CGPGrey’s video about first past the post. It’s not really ABOUT trying to change minds but FPTP voting rules really do mean that a two party system is bound to very basic human psychology.

HomerianSymphony ,

Many countries with FPTP have multi-party systems, including Canada and the UK.

Snowpix ,

Yet we still always have the Liberals or the Conservatives in power… the power always ends up consolidated anyway, at least here in Canada.

sunzu2 ,

Don't think of it as politics, think of it as a regime. They control the political process and switch spots based on public sentiment.

The political process is a charade as long as people keep voting in polarized way. The propaganda is there to keep us polarized. Most Anglo sphere appears to be infected at this point.

I mean Musk said Twitter was a Bad Thing and problematic.

Then a year or so later bought it, and immediately started doing things which reduced it’s popularity and influence.

lurch ,

I think he wanted to run it into the ground or make it a fashist/rightwing/propaganda site before the US elections and it looks like he’s pretty much there. It’s in a horrible state. Could be worse, but it’s really bad.
