Why not both?

My primary DNS is pihole on a rpi dedicated to the task; but I run a second instance of pihole via my main docker stack for redundancy. Should one or the other be unavailable, there’s a second one to pick up the slack.

I just provide both DNS IPs to LAN clients via DHCP.

Gravity Sync is a great tool to keep both piholes settings/records/lists in sync.

proudblond , (edited ) to asklemmy in What are questions that will make it sound like I can afford a million euro house?

I’m from California so my wealth meter is broken beyond all reason. Is 1.1 million euros really considered “rich?” Everybody’s making jokes about wearing a monocle or not asking questions about flooding and I’m sitting here thinking about the house on my street that sold for about that much recently…and is a tear-down. 😭

Edit: actually wait, it was more like twice that much… it was like $2.3 mil and there’s no way they do any less than strip it to the framing.

Same, and also with experience in the construction business, so my first thought was that 220k per door for apartments is quite reasonable. I wouldn’t fret about it at all, because in the grand scheme of things this is chump change. Just say you’re getting into real estate investing with a business partner.

Meltrax ,

Yeah dude. I’m in Boston. It isn’t San Fran levels yet but if you want a lot (with a rotting house on it) that will be a nice $2mil and then you can enjoy removing the rotted house.

Based on what I’ve heard about the US’s 988, it may rather be negative.

Oh, you’re thinking of killing yourself, let us reinforce that by being absolutely rude, or better yet, time to get taken away by cops into a psych ward.

Let’s see what’s out there with some example (Reddit)
Summary: Person called 988, police showed up 90 minutes later, got taken for mandatory psychological evaluation, forced to stay 2 days in ER, ended up getting billed $6,470.

Kecessa ,

Well that last part is a US specific issue and people have the right to refuse treatment

I game on arch (btw) But honestly I don’t think the distro itself really matters for gaming? Just choose the one you want and give er

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Valid point.

I kind of wanted to see if there’s something I wasn’t aware of.

TimeSquirrel , (edited )

It kinda does matter if you want updated drivers and packages and stuff. I use Debian because I love its bare bones, generic approach and I'm used to it, but I'd never recommend it for anyone playing the latest games unless they like cruising five years in the past.

Crazyslinkz OP ,

That’s what I thought about debian is that it’s very stable, but this causes drivers and possibly other stuff to not be updated as quickly.

pastermil , to linux_gaming in Which distro?

Gentoo lets you trim the fat even more by adjusting your packages at build-time. It has great KDE support. It comes with LTS kernel, but lets you opt for newer ones.

tisktisk ,

is also quickest penguin and best meta-distro (only one of it's kind really)

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Right, built for my system.

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Hmmm… thanks for the response, I like how it’s more built for your system since you compile it locally.

pastermil ,

The USE flags (feature compilation option) can be a bit tricky to manage, but they’ve tidied up the defaults quite a bit.

The one thing that might still be hard to get right is having all the media codec you need. I wish they’d include it in the default so I didn’t have to fine tune it myself, but well, that’s just part of the fun, and I already got my battle-tested set, so I got nothing to complain.

Arch w/ KDE gamer here. I have generally had a good experience with it. I think everything you said is generally accurate. In terms of customization, lack of bloat, and a good wiki, Arch is generally considered to be all of those things. A rolling distro like Arch I believe will also be getting the latest proton updates, which may help with sooner game compatibility/optimization updates on more recent releases.

I say go for it.

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Thanks for your feedback.

Lots of good info & news, and info on just about every distro there is, stuff you’ve never heard of. Years and years ago this was my introduction to FreeNAS that made a huge difference in my life. You should check it out if you haven’t already.

Unpopular opinion but for gaming I believe windows it’s better than Linux, I use Linux but I’m not a gamer.

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Yeah, there’s some issues with it, but I’m really tired of windows and don’t really want to install 11 or pay for it.

Thanks for your response.

PushButton ,

As a Linux only user, I totally agree with your message.

People who downvote you aren’t of good faith, are delusional or just dumb.

Linux is better in every single category except ease of use for non-technical users and gaming.

Let’s stop with this bandwagon of MS bad, Linux good; Linux is good enough for us to not lie and speak the truth…

tisktisk , to linux_gaming in Which distro?

how has no one rec'd bazzite, yet? It's literally 'THE' KDE/Gaming linux distro lol

Crazyslinkz OP ,

Interesting, built off fedora, I’ll check it out.

Breadhax0r ,

I tried bazzite and nobara which are both the big gaming distros. Bazzite worked the best but I had a ton of just weird little issues with stuff randomly not working unless I restarted it. I don’t have much to say about nobara because I couldn’t actually get steam to work for some reason.

I went back to mint and honestly it’s been the smoothest and easiest to use distro, plus it has a larger user base so it’s easier to find help.

SolarPunker ,

Nobara is very good for middle user that just want a ready-to-game distro; Bazzite is best for noobs, thanks to immutability; for an experienced user there are no reasons to not use Arch.
