This is something I want to know too!
I don’t believe google deletes anything that has entered their system, my use case is that they don’t have visibility on when are my devices online, how many so I have, and such. But my gmail address has not been my primary one for long, so it’s not that important.

All I have found so far, though, is that what I need is possibly called a Message Delivery Agent.

Cause it has to memorize everybody's number just in case you decide to call it. That's why your cell phone doesn't need a rotary dial anymore.

I think I missed something in your description, but what are you running on your local server? I think most people set up postfix to relay the emails over to gmail or whoever, and there are options in postfix for backwards compatibility with Outlook or even Microsoft Mail so your wife could use whatever client she wants. If you don’t have a local mail server set up then this is probably what you want to do. This method allow a local or remote connection from any client so you could run K9 on your phone instead of a VPN.

For opening such a setup to the internet (and allowing access from anywhere), make sure you have strong passwords on your accounts, require SASL authentication, and set up fail2ban to block repeated attempts to hack your mailboxes. Don’t run anything else on the same server (or use virtual machines or strong containers) to reduce the chance of your mail server getting compromised other ways, and you should be good to go.

Those first set of specs it quoted are actually the original min specs that Oculus and Valve promoted for the Rift and Vive when they were new.

Ever since then there have not been new “official” min specs. But it’s true that higher spec if better and that newer headsets are higher res and could use higher spec stuff.

Also, a “well actually” on this would be that those are the revised min specs that were put out a few years after the initial specs. It use to be a GTX 970 was min spec. But they changed that to the 1060.

What is failing here is the model actually being smart. If it was smart it would have reasoned that time moves on and it would have considered better mins pecs for current hardware. But instead it just regurgitated the min specs that were once commonly quoted by Oculus/Meta and Valve.

kraftpudding , to nostupidquestions in How do I alleviate bitterness due to lack of intimacy?

Well, it sounds like you’re going after women out if your league because you think they’re attractive and that’s a valid choice. But it is a choice you’re making. It sounds like you could have intimacy if you lowered your standards or increased you attractiveness (gym etc). Or you could abandon dating to not have to face rejections.

So I think the key to avoid bitterness is to reevaluate if the choice you are making still works for you if it brings up bitterness. Then you can either stay with your choice or switch, if you don’t think any other option brings less negative feelings.

And if you choose the best option for you, there’s no need for bitterness.

mox , (edited ) to games in Anyone else feels like rdr2 have no bad missions?

I consider any mission that starts with an unskippable cut scene, especially one that lasts several minutes, to be bad. Needlessly wasting the player’s time is unforgivable.

I consider any mission that instantly fails if you step outside an invisible and unstated boundary, especially in an open world game, to be bad. Punishing the player for creative thinking is unforgivable.

I consider any mission that presents a challenge, and then cheats to force failure when a skilled player is about to succeed, to be bad. Breaking the physics of the game world in order to artificially cancel excellent play is perhaps (barely) forgivable, but terrible game design.

So I guess I don’t get to be in your gang. But I’m glad you had a good time!

(P.S. The game world was beautiful, at least. Props to the folks at Rockstar who did that.)

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

I disagree. That was deliberate because you were meant to slow down and experience Arthur’s life.

mox , (edited )

Make your cut scene compelling, or at least interesting, and people will slow down and experience it willingly. Once.

Force players to slog through your cut scene whether they enjoy it or not, and you’re just being self-indulgent, ignoring the fundamental purpose of a game (entertainment) in favor of your own ego. If you want to do that, make a movie, not a game.

Forcing them to do it again after they’ve already watched it (during a subsequent play-through, or after your game crashed during the mission, or because they made a mistake and want to retry) is well beyond game designer arrogance; it’s just plain bad software design. How would you feel if you had to read and click through time-consuming new user help screens whenever you launched an app, and not just the first time you used it, but every single time?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is particularly bad in this area, as it has cut scenes as long as ten minutes, and not only forces them down the player’s throat, but also makes it impossible to save the game just afterward, so fully restarting a mission requires slogging through the cut scene again.

Note that the emphasis here is on unskippable. Cut scenes on their own are fine. Even slow ones.
