alvvayson , to nostupidquestions in Why do big corporations get to claim losses, but small businesses can't?

Because they manage to attract investment.

As long as investors are willing to give cash in exchange for equity, a company can operate on that cash and run at a loss.

QuarterSwede ,
@QuarterSwede@lemmy.world avatar

To clarify further, in the US, the IRS cares about the big businesses too and they get audited, at least, yearly by law. Also, small businesses can still operate if they have the capital to do so. The IRS is concerned about ensuring no laundering or otherwise nefarious activities are going on, which is why they get the spotlight when running in the red consistently.

lemmyman ,

The IRS doesn’t audit annually, companies hire 3rd party auditors. And it’s not a tax requirement, it’s a public-company requirement.

Thanks for the clarification. It’s a very important distinction.

Try flashing the image onto the USB using another tool. You also can try the dd command in Linux (do be careful using dd though)

e.g.

dd if=ubuntu.iso of=/dev/sda bs=8M status=progress

Make sure to replace /dev/sda with your USB drive’s path.

Presi300 , to selfhosted in NAS / NAS + server? Unraid, Proxmox, Intel, AMD? Looking for guidance.
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I’m biased towards TrueNAS scale, because in my experience, it’s been really rock solid, running on bare metal. It also allows you to setup things like Nextcloud/Tailscale/ a lot more, in 1 click from their “app store”. It’s also got all the virtualization bells and whistles. As for ZFS, again, just like everything else, it’s been rock solid and setting up a ZFS pool is pretty much done for you when you install TN Scale.

As for remote access, I’ve always personally done it via a local Wireguard server and can’t really compare it to tailscare or whatever cloudflare does… Because I’ve never used those.

If you need a GPU just for encoding, go on the 2nd hand market and pick up a used Nvidia RTX 2000/3000 card. Intel Arc could also work, but it’s a bit quirky afaik…

Yeah. I never considered that this wouldn’t be normal, though. I kinda always had a “healthier than average” palate throughout my childhood as well as doing physical activities, and maybe the discernment comes from that as you’re suggesting.

FireRetardant , to nostupidquestions in How do I alleviate bitterness due to lack of intimacy?

I’m not sure you age but from what I understand, many people between 20-40 have been having issues finding genuine relationships and “situationships” are on the rise. I know several people that claim to be happy having 2-3 half commited partners (whom often also have other partners), but i don’t believe they are that happy, especially compared to a genuine relationship.

As others had said try to just stick to your own personallity and focus on your own happiness, changing yourself or your standards just to get laid often doesn’t work. When i was going through a phase of depression i started seeing a partner whom couldn’t commit to me the way i desired, but i stuck around anyway because it was a nice distraction from my life. A few months later we called it offand there was a fair amount of emotional pain. The relationship was kinda of toxic as well and I’ll probably carry scars from it into my next one. Even just the memories, good or bad, are constant distraction some times. My overall point is don’t commit to it if its not what you genuinely want, good relationships have been on the decline for a while so its not always your fault if you can’t establish one.
