Uli , to linuxmemes in Why Are You Staying On Windows 11?

Just built my first fully dedicated Linux machine. Still keeping my old Windows desktop around purely because I play League of Legends and they use a kernel level anticheat, so it won’t run on VM.

Fun fact, ever since Riot made it mandatory to install their rootkit if you want to play their games, every time I try to eject a flash drive, it says it can’t eject because it’s in use - even if I just plugged it in. And that’s super comforting.

DerisionConsulting ,

It’s not like Riot Games is fully owned by Tencent or anything…

But if you still want to play the game, having a computer that you only use for league, with nothing else installed, is the best way to go about it

jeffreyosborne , to linux in CachyOS - Change from Gnome to KDE

CachyOS is arch based, which allows you to use the holy ArchWiki. wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE Is what you’re looking for. Good luck!

aStonedSanta OP ,

Thank you. This is what I ended up using. Swapped to SDDM. Then removed gnome. Things seem to be good. Gnome-desktop and gnome-desktop-common appear stuck due to lutris but I’ll figure that out later

jeffreyosborne ,

Glad it worked! And what do you mean stuck? As in that you can’t remove them?

aStonedSanta OP ,

Yeah. Gives an error. But they weren’t not auto removed when removing gnome or gnome-essentials so they might be required.

I loved this theme! I remember upgrading from XP to Vista Aero (later win7) and being blown away! Aero based themes are still my favorite. Windows 8 and 10 looked cheap and boring.

In the context of an argument or when I’m clearly trying to be taken seriously? No. If I’m actually angry, what happens to you is above me.

Any other time? (◡‿◡🌸) ✨Thank you ✨

They’re going to cost you that much in energy alone. Just get an AMD minipc and start from there. Maybe an N100 if you don’t need the speed.

Adderbox76 , to asklemmy in Are your grandparents and parents nice or tolerant people?

Mom, yes. Dad, no.

Dad’s a bigot that doesn’t understand why he can’t use “those kind of words” these days so he rants about it in private.

HOWEVER…he would never say it to their face, he’s at least THAT self-aware. And for the most part, he wouldn’t hassle them (or anyone).

While his personal beliefs are most certainly bigoted. He’s anti-LGBTQ+, anti-indigenous (we’re in Canada), anti-immigrant (he himself IS a fucking immigrant…smh)

But his biggest trait is simply live and let live. He doesn’t agree with them, but he has no interest in forcing that disagreement upon them.

He basically believes in everyone minding their own damn business regardless of what they may personally believe.

possiblylinux127 , to selfhosted in How do I determine if a CPU is better than another one?

Look at generation first. Look at ram speed, clock speed, number of cores and cache after checking the generation

possiblylinux127 , to selfhosted in Simple safe encryption for a server?

That isn’t possible. I would look into physical security (ie a locked cage)

Flax_vert OP ,

If someone nicks it, can’t they just use boltcutters? Could hide the drive under the floorboards theoretically

possiblylinux127 ,

If someone shows up with bolt cutters then you have other issues. They just as well could hold you at gun point

Flax_vert OP ,

I mean the whole machine. Unless I cage it to the floor

databender , to linux in Why you should (probably not) run Slackware
@databender@lemmy.world avatar

If you hate bloat you like Slackware. It doesn’t assume anything about how you want to use your computer, so it’s more painful for a lot of folks. Other distros will try to do things for you and will ultimately end up doing something someone doesn’t want. With Slackware you learn a lot and you get a rock-solid system that will do whatever you like, but you have to be willing to manage it.

Today , to nostupidquestions in is it possible to be married and still feel lonely?

I feel sad for his wife. Unless she’s hateful too.
