Fun fact: these amazing people are the reason Democrats and many Republicans voted in favor of gun control laws in California. They were racists that feared armed minorities protesting for equity and nipped that in the bud.

Now it’s us Leftists holding our unarmed dicks in our hands while armed Christofascist Republicans are trying to take over the government, while we finger waggle at them and hope the racist cops are on our side since none of us have enough guns to counter their deterrence efforts.

Yep, Reagan signed the gun control laws as governor after Black Panthers visited the Sacramento capital with guns.

This feeds my response to everyone who tried to pretend “All Lives Matter” or “Police shoot more white people than black people” was anything other than racist, bigoted obstructionism during 2020. There is no proposed police reform that I’m aware of which would only help black people. No matter the impetus, police reform would help everyone.

Same thing here. They didn’t help to effect social change that only helped black people, they helped to effect social change that helped us all.

And they did much more than that.

Sorry for the listicle but it’s a good one with decent detail.

On the gender controversy…the Olympics pool from so many humans that for many years now, you can tell just visually that top contenders are those naturally selected with genetic traits lending them unusual prowess in their sport. For strength based sports, more women with male traits rise to the top and vice-versa for men in more physiologically female dominated areas.

kevindqc ,

Yeah. Should Michael Phelps have been banned from the Olympics because his genes gave him a perfect body for swimming, giving him an unfair advantage over those who don’t? Where is the line drawn?

Thinkpads – a laptop with a rich history of Linux use – can be bought with an integrated 4090. The ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 can be configured with an i9, plenty of flexibility for drive space and RAM, and an RTX 4090. It’ll run you, even used, around $3k to $4k, which is the equivalent of a desktop replacement. But it’ll be pretty doggone compatible with any Linux distro you’d like.

If you want to get into the scene, hopefully, you made this post from a clean account that can never trace back to you. Otherwise this shit will break your back at some point.

The people you want to be in contact with, don’t want to be in contact with you. People who want to be in contact with you, are cops or stupid people.

If you need to ask, then you shouldn’t know. People who offer help are likely to deceive you.

There is still value in watching en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scene_(miniseries)

That being said, that material was highly likely already captured by existing professionals and nobody will care. Don’t risk anything for a bit of thrill. Actually releasing pirated material and actively breaking copyright law is no joke. You might think it’s good fun, but there are people who try to fuck you up as their full-time job. Pirates are often mentally ill or are motivated financially. There is no Robin Hood you could help for a greater good.

9point6 , to patientgamers in I know this is PatientGamers, but can we discuss how even the current generation of consoles seems to ask for patience as they aren't that many games 4 years after their release?

The biggest one for me is that most of the games come out on PC eventually anyway, and will generally run at higher resolutions and frame rates.

I’ve also got more than enough in my steam account to play whilst I wait for any exclusives to decide they actually want my money

Also I like that I’ve got my PC, laptop, steam deck and Nvidia shields with steam link that can all play my games in various different situations. A traditional home console kinda limits the situations in which I can play my games.

dandi8 ,
@dandi8@fedia.io avatar

Is it an issue, though?

9point6 ,

That it limits how I can play games? Well yes, it might not be a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, but it kinda sucks when you want to go to engage in one of your hobbies and can’t for whatever reason.

A simple example—I don’t have a lot of free time these days and my partner might be in the middle of watching something on the main TV where the console would typically live.

With my current situation I can hang out in the same room as her and play something on my steam deck or laptop, or I could go upstairs and play on the PC or even on the bedroom TV via steam link.

With a typical console (I’m not including the switch here), I’d either have to kick my partner off the TV (kinda shitty) or fumble around for a bit disconnecting it, moving it and connecting it up again to my other TV. All of the PC options seem better to me IMO

dandi8 ,
@dandi8@fedia.io avatar

I meant this:

Did you edit the comment? I could have sworn there was the word "issue" in there, originally.

9point6 ,

Nope no edits on that one! I don’t think Lemmy has the 3 minute grace period on edits like Reddit either, so it would have an edited indicator on it.

Regardless, I wouldn’t say that was an issue for me, I guess it’s an issue for the console manufacturers as I assume the point of paying publishers for console exclusives is to attempt to shift more hardware and if I’m representative of any demographic that’s not good for them.

Something tells me it’s you who doesn’t read enough. Checkout some words whose pronunciation is different from the spelling. You’d be surprised to know why that is. Or why some words have changed their spellings (from colour to color or metre to meter).

They provide services to ALL people. So tired of reading that only the poor use the library. My kids are always begging to be taken there to get books and do activities. We just used the color printer/copier at ours the other day and the first 3 copies were free. Libraries are an amazing community resource for EVERYONE.

flora_explora ,

The post clearly says that they also provide services to poor people and just adds it at the very end. I get that you are primed to reading this wrong but in this case it actually isn’t wrong…

The three big branches around me have well stocked maker spaces. I see young classes in there all the time.

Some have seed selections for gardeners. Many assist with tax preparation. I’ve heard of a few who lend music equipment (think mixers, PAs, synths) for musicians who can’t justify going all in getting their own gear.

Libraries are fucking rad.

yogthos OP ,

When your whole economy is organized around private ownership then the role of the state is to primarily mediate between different capitalist interests. It’s not like California has public sector capacity to deliver large scale projects that way state owned enterprise does in China.
