No, PipePipe and NewPipe work the same way and load the data from YouTube’s server by extracting the information they need (including the video stream) from the website. Piped is a project that uses NewPipes’ extraction but puts it on the server side. Piped has to be hosted on a server but that server extracts the information from the website and then sends it to the client, thereby proxying it to you. With Piped, your device never contacts the YouTube servers itself. LibreTube is a FOSS Android app, that’s also on F-Droid, that uses Piped.
I’m currently looking at onedev.io for personal and startup use but since I haven’t had an opportunity to test it out yet I can’t vouch for it. It looks cool though and seems to have a good rep.
I write technical documentation and training materials as part of my job, and the state of most open source documentation makes me want to stab people with an ice pick.
I could live with this. I like the gnome “workflow” but I hate how restrictive it is. Not to mention that it runs worse on my laptop compared to KDE. Thanks for the inspiration! I might just try something like this.
I’m on calls all the time. People kids come home from school and want to talk to parent real quick. It’s polite to give them a min or 2 to wrap up. Christ would have been cool with it.
