I’ve had a lot of thinkpads and currently use an ideapad flex 5. I prefer the smaller form factor for a portable machine I take travelling or out to biz meetings etc. The autorotate and touchscreen work great in Debian with gnome-shell out of the box. No pinch-to-zoom but I believe that works on KDE plasma out of the box.
I try to watch all of them. They are always super informative and entertaining. They always are about something I am interested in. They are always super short and never get in the way of what I am trying to read or actually view. I particularly like how they sometimes play more than one video so it can be a two for one!! Someone suggested getting a new disk drive/SSD, which is a good approach if you don’t mind a relatively hard cutover. But if you have the space and funds for it, it may be simpler to just get another computer and run Linux on it from the beginning, while also keeping your Windows machine running. Then you can gradually migrate your files and activities to Linux as you go. Once you’re not using the Windows machine much any more, just unplug it, don’t throw it out. You can then turn it back on if you need something from it.
I use arch, I’m very happy with my distro. No bullshit, no decisions made on my behalf, no hacking around artificial limitations(fedora, Ubuntu), and no removing software to declutter my application menu.
I don’t know if it’s anyone else’s experience but troubleshooting arch is easier than other distros because your intimate knowledge of the system you built yourself. It has helped me with fixing other distros though.
A tip to new arch users, keep the AUR package numbers very low or at least mostly limited to packages officially endorsed or potentially maintained by the main project.
Buy a laptop from a vendor that preinatalls Linux. Not because you need them to do that for you, but because it means its more likely to work on Linux without issues.
