I prefer MX Player with custom codecs for most videos due to its comprehensive features and quality of life customization options, for HEVC HDR videos I use mpv as it’s one of the few players capable of displaying them properly on my phone.
For music, I use Neutron because I’m an audiophile
Fun fact: When AOL was still operating in Germany, internal servers in their network were named after characters / things from Asterix comics, like Asterix, Obelix, Idefix, Miraculix and even Hinkelstein (menhir). When Telecom Italia bought them up they unfortunately got rid of all these and replaced them with standard corpo server names. Source: I worked there.
Chrome OS is 100% a distro by induction, because Gentoo is a distro and Chrome OS is based on Gentoo.
As for Android: I’d say it is a distro, but most people think of desktop or server OSs when they talk about distros these days. Obviously it’s neither of these.
KDE Neon is a testing vehicle for new KDE software. The devs don’t consider it a distro because it’s not meant to distribute anything. It’s for testing and they don’t (have to) beyond that. So this has nothing to do with how this OS behaves, looks or whatever.
There’s a certain irony in the degree of privacy discussion and advocacy on the fediverse, where even your upvotes and downvotes are part of the public record.
That’s, coupled with lackluster security vetting for server software and infrastructure across multiple instances means that invariably cross correlating your likes of furry porn with the email used in the account is going to happen in the future.
A lot of people are going to end up burned thinking that “non-corporate operation” = ‘private.’
I’m curious how many people actually think that, although it’s unknowable of course.
You’re right in that a huge portion of people would certainly make that assumption.
However, i would argue that the fediverse & open source in general is more “privacy respecting” because we can have a discussion about exactly what is disclosed and why it is disclosed.
In practice, using the web without leaking information about our preferences is pretty much impossible. “Privacy” (on and off the web) is never about “no disclosure”, it’s always about what needs to be disclosed, why it needs to be disclosed, and whether I personally am comfortable disclosing in exchange for whatever service I am seeking.
I has some degree of privacy. A better way to look at it is to say: It’s less worst ! But full privacy is to shut down all your connected electric aplliances, never connect to the web, sell your house and go living of the grid.
I don’t really care if it’s displayed or not, I’m just glad it’s not used for gatekeeping purposes. (Must have so much upvotes/karma to post, comment, etc.) I just read that as: “community not open to new members, got it.”
Back in my college days, I first used a T60 (not ultrabook) then moved to an x220 (nearing ultrabook). The X220 was perfect, removable battery, all day battery, good build quality, perfect for linux. I rocked mint with DWM for the 2nd half of my uni days.
Realistically there isn’t one. People dropping that argument are not interested in a dialectic.
It ultimately doesn’t matter if you have nothing to hide. Some people do and have good, ethical, reason to. Universal privacy is the only way to ensure necessary privacy.
I disagree. This is the first game I’m rating over 9/10 since divinity original sin 2.
I specifically like the map style over contemporary, pseudo big(copy pasted), generic open world.
The story is the best I can think of in epic RPGS, maybe throne of Baal or kotor were similarly interesting for me but they are very old so there’s some nostalgia.
Only 2 complaints I have are difficulty, there’s no reason to hide the hard mode, action is too easy. And side quest design, almost all involving combat.
Because lazy hiring managers only care about people’s linked in profiles so anyone looking for work has to puff up their useless “professional” personas to even be considered for a job.
Unfortunately this is my experience as well. Good thing you can create a nice profile in a day or two and just ignore the rest. Still its stupid to hire someone based on their pretend persona.
