@667@lemmy.radio avatar

What’s your proximity to the transmitter? At least on AM I’ve seen splatter from nearby strong transmitters which don’t splatter once a reasonable distance away

linuxguy OP ,

Less than 5 miles. Their signal strength is s9+60 or so. Definitely strong.

667 ,
@667@lemmy.radio avatar

That’s a lot of power coming straight to your radio. Does this model have an attenuator or RF gain? Try turning it on (or down the RF again) and see if there’s still splatter.

linuxguy OP ,

Indeed. Unfortunately those fancy features aren’t available on vhf/uhf with this radio. Only the hf bands have those options.

you lost me at “docker”. The only people using docker are morons and those that trust software by morons.

doodledup ,

What’s bad about Docker? It’s secure and easy to setup.

Your hate comment lacks vital information just like the docs shared by OP.

raspberriesareyummy ,

While security has nothing to do with my disgust for docker and people advocating its use, docker adds a layer of complexity, which means it is not necessarily more secure.

What is extremely bad about docker:

  1. it enables extremely shitty configuration control on the side of a developer. There are way too many developers who have a chaotic approach to configurations, and instead of being forced to write a proper installation and configuration guide from scratch, and thereby making themselves(!) aware of active configuration changes they made to make their system work, they just roll out the docker container they develop in, without remembering most of the configurations they made. Which, naturally, means that they are unable to assist in troubleshooting problems or reproduce issues that users might have.

In general, if you can’t write a good user manual, or at least clearly identify needed dependencies and configurations, you should not be developing software for other people.

  1. it combines the disadvantages of a VM (shitty performance) and running directly on the host OS (sandboxing is not nearly as good as on a VM)
  2. it creates insane bloat, by completely bypassing the concept of shared libraries and making people download copies of software they already have on their system
  3. it adds a lot of security risks because the user would have to not only review the source code they are compiling and installing, but also would have to scan all the dependencies and what-not, and would basically have to trust the developer and/or anyone distributing an image that they did not add any malware.

I unfortunately can’t help you with what I think you should do: emigrate to another country, preferably one of the more socialist European ones. I don’t know what is required to emigrate, it probably differs per country. But I’m pretty sure it should be possible to find out by going online and looking around.

I wish you lots of good luck and all the best. I hope you can get a better life. Just remember, people are shitty everywhere, they’re just more or less shitty.

I lived in an apartment complex in my early 20s. Left the car unlocked one night and someone rummaged through it. The only thing they took was my prescription sunglasses. It aggrivates me to think that the moment they tried it they realized it was a prescription and threw em out. $600 just gone to steal something absolutely useless to anyone but me.

Like bruh.

cashmaggot OP ,

Woah, I talked about someone who had their car broken open and the only thing they took was sunglasses @_. Totally, like bruh moment. I've heard people say it's easier to keep nothing in your car and keep it unlocked than to keep it locked with stuff in it. Shrugs.

Either way fk thieves!

The was in the 90s when I was growing up. Some asshole straight up came into my parent’s house and took these expensive ass Guess shorts while I was napping. Also had my wallet and ID in there. In a few days, the ID showed back up in my mailbox. I have a feeling it was a scumbag dude I grew up with but I’ll never truly know for sure.

Yo, at least you got the set back. But who the fuck does that? I hope that dude wasn't some kinda freaky ass pedophile who was coming for booty or some shit.

When I mouseover I just get a message to expand the image. Like this:

Upon expanding the image, I cannot get alt-text to appear.

EDIT: Here’s what I get when I use dev tools to inspect the element:

That looks like its likely the case. Blahaj is a nice instance, but it’s definitely behind the curve on current version status.

Samsy OP ,

My instance is .ml and I used jerboa, which has an alt-text field below the image uploader.

Zagorath ,
@Zagorath@aussie.zone avatar

Annoyingly, while Jerboa has a field to add alt text to the submission when you create it, I can’t find a way to get it to show me the alt text on a submission that has already been created.
