I haven’t seen all of them in person, but the other day someone showed me the StarLite which is their budget laptop and honestly it really surprised me. The only thing with similar build quality I’ve seen at such a low price was the google pixel book go which can be had used absurdly cheap.
I think they’re the company I’d use to buy Linux laptops if I used one daily, these days I use a MacBook Air m2 simply because the battery life beats all and for how I work that’s what I need most.
Since I got Yubikey 5, I ended up using Yubico Authenticator. It’s a bit of a PITA since it requires unlocking with the key at each use (NFC or USB), but I grew to actually appreciate that extra layer of protection. The OTP accounts are actually stored on the key (I believe up to 32 per key), so it is highly portable.
App is decent and available for every OS, including Linux.
When I had my first job as a receptionist, our fax still printed on thermal paper rolls and we had a particularly bright customer fax us a 50 page contract. I was almost in tears as I watched a newly replaced very expensive roll getting wasted in minutes. I called my supervisor to vent and he walked to my desk with a sharpie, wrote IMCOMPLETE across the roll and said “fax it back to them”. They were calling us back in less than a minute screeching on the phone to stop transmission.
My mom was a foster parent for troubled kids. She did it for 20 years. Over 100 kids ended either being able to return home, or found perm adoption. However, in the end, one kid broke her, and she nearly didn’t come back from it. This kid had a horrible life, abused, physically and sexually for over 10 years by his father and mother both. He got arrested when he tried to touch a 6 year old at his school. When they took him into custody, they put him in a juvi unit with kids 5+ years older then him. He spent 2 years there before he was placed with my mom. He would punch, bite, kick, spit, scratch. Break things, scream, yell, shout, and anything else he could do to try and get a reaction. She lasted just over a year, but when he punched my 3 month old niece, my mom had to physically get between him and my brother who probably would have killed him, no exaggeration. She called and had him picked up by the foster care center she worked for. He screamed at her that like everyone else in his life, she abandoned him. They took him away and she quit the next day. A few years after my mother passed away, I saw on the news that he was killed in a gang related conflict. I’m glad she didn’t have to deal with that knowledge. It took a long time for us to convince her that she wasn’t the one who failed that kid, life just dealt them a shitty hand and they didn’t play the cards they had been dealt right.
I’ll be honest it really pissed me off that he wasn’t arrested and jail for punching an infant. If I was your uncle I don’t know if your mom could have held me back.
I’ve known a lot of people in rough situations in my life, lots of people who needed help and mental health care, but I’ve never met someone who at any point in their life thought it was ok to punch an infant.
I completely agree. I firmly believe his life would have been very different if he had been put in a mental care facility rather then Juvi with kids that were double his age in some cases.
The average person is extremely tech illiterate. This is not a condemnation of their personal choices, or view of the world, or politics or anything like that. Even highly educated people cannot explain even the most basic things about computers, the internet, electricity or the nature of information.
Linux feels simple to you because you likey have both education and experienced with computer systems. However, the interconnected world is not that difficult to understand if you have the opportunity to understand it. This privilege absolutely makes everyone else in the world who does not have that opportunity or desire feel shockingly inept on technology issues.
I would presume the instance is important here? I usually browse just the local communities(? or sublemmies). I still like to explore Lemmy but get too much uninteresting stuff if I browse the whole federation. Guess some others think the same way.
I probably would have never read this story if it only existed on kbin (and Reddit, but I almost haven’t touched Reddit since end of June, only one to read the message that the coins are discontinued)
Ditto, except it's kbin.social in my case rather than lemmy.world

That can be the case, sometimes issues with federation can cause threads to get lost across instances, and a new instance may not get all the existing threads on a pre-existing magazine.
However, it looks like both your account and this magazine are hosted on lemmy.world - since you're both on the same instance, you should have been able to see the older posts on this magazine. (Note: magazine is the kbin term for lemmy communities - i prefer it as the term community can be ambiguous). I've never used lemmy proper so am not sure how that works, but on kbin you can view the older threads on a magazine quite easily.
Ideally there would have been a way to merge threads and preserve the comments from both. Too late now I guess, but something to keep in mind next time something like this happens I suppose..
Keepass2Android. I store everything in a KeePass database synced with OneDrive. I like KeePass because it serves as the storage for all my passwords, OTP, and even SSH keys because it can act as an SSH KeyAgent.
Such as the most populated, most active, or most secluded if that’s what you like. It’s a good thing OP, we are not locked down to one community in the event that one goes crazy.
At most you’re gonna get like $10-15 off on most 1st-part titles. Better off going physical and buying used, if you want to save money.
As for games, Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Luigi’s Mansion 3 are great. Link’s Awakening, also. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are good too, but overrated imo.
