A troll is someone not using the platform in good faith, but instead trying to fish some type of negative reaction or result.
On a social media platform like Lemmy, a troll could be someone creating fights, baiting people with insults or fabrications, spreading misinformation purposely, adding links to content that might dangerous or illegal, and so on.
In short, a troll is someone engaging with others with the goal of ruining their experience. In a videogame it could be a team member losing on purpose to annoy others, for example.
A little Internet history: the etymology of “troll” in the Internet sense comes from the fishing term “trolling” which is where one moves around the fishing area with bait waiting for fish to hit (or bite). In the old bulletin board days a normal response before engaging with an obviously inflammatory/bad faith post was to start “ok, I’ll bite … [Counter Argument]”

The 3 points above are how they can not charge egress for the majority of people.
In Hungary, one big reason is that the government has all the media coverage, and they basically created a false narrative that if Orbán loses, then a) the previous government will come back and no matter how bad things are right now, it will be WORSE, b) migrants will come and wreak havock, c) our sons will have to go to war (in the last election, the opposition lost a lot of votes because there was a billboard campaign stating that the new PM candidate would send soldiers to Ukraine), d) there will be some kind of woke dictatorship.
People also think that the bad quality of life is mostly the fault of the EU and the previous government (which was in power over a decade ago…), and that it’s okay that Orbán and his party steals from them because at least they’re “on their side”.
The government also provides some help to parents, which people find valuable, so they keep voting for FIDESZ.
That’s by design, isn’t it? Dominate the market while operating at a loss then monetize once you have attained monopoly. Like Uber’s strategy. This is an awful way of conducting a business IMHO, it falsifies the economy. I honestly believe they should put severe regulations on this.
It is a strategy that works when interest rates are 0%, and the 2008 recession was so bad that the IS Fed kept interest rates low until 2021.
Redo the math at 5% interest rates today and 13 years of $1 Billion investment needs to make $1.8 billion just to break even. Money losing strategies are nerfed in this new meta.
