Be carefull that they dont install that crowdstrike software automatically onto your installation

Synther OP ,

Isn’t that a windows problem, as Linux macos are unaffected…

lord_ryvan ,

Crowdstrike can be installed in Linux systems, some of them are affected. It doesn’t come, nor necessarily auto update, by default.

    Provided reference for a thought for clarity.

    I do take offense at the many excuses and terrible behavior of people telling me tough, get over it, etc., by inference or directly. No joke, when my folks die soon, so will I. I did nothing to deserve this horrifically abusive fate. This is the gun pointed at my head with a bullet in the chamber. I’m aware of it constantly, but have no way of changing things. If you want to defend that kind of nonsense or call it equal that is on you. This is lives versus ignorant stupidity that is abusively hurtful to me. If that bothers people’s stupid politics I don’t give a damn. A person’s life and right to exist in peace is far greater than anyone’s right to a shitty opinion. I want nothing to do with anyone that cares to argue against that, as they are arguing for murder and complicit bystanders. MLK said it best, “Bad things happen when good people do nothing.”

    Most of the time it was not an issue. Occasionally a teacher gave us a office document that loaded a bit funky, but it never blocked me from doing my assignments.

    Deliverables were PDFs, so it really doesn’t matter what you use.

    I do remember having to learn some ghostscript command so that I could edit PDFs and stitch together a bunch of PDFs into one file. It was annoyingly difficult to edit PDFs back then, but I figured it out.

    clark OP ,
    @clark@midwest.social avatar

    Forgive the stupid question but I just want to be sure. If I write a document in LibreOffice and use a bunch of fonts and fancy stuff, then send it as a PDF to a MOffice user, they will be able to see all the fonts and such?

    delirious_owl , (edited )
    @delirious_owl@discuss.online avatar

    No question is stupid.

    If the font is included in the PDF file, yes. This is how PDF is designed to work. The whole point is that PDFs should look identical on all platforms

    clark OP ,
    @clark@midwest.social avatar

    Super! I won’t have any issue submitting assignments then. Only trouble of course would be live collaboration, but I can always use MOffice web-version for that.

    sylver_dragon , to asklemmy in What Do You Use Your Personal Website For?

    I use my domain for two purposes:

    1. I host my own NextCloud instance, so that I don’t have to put my data on someone else’s computer.
    2. I have a blog (WordPress) with less that a dozen posts. Just random stuff that interested me and I got myself to actually write up.
    neidu2 , to showerthoughts in The appearance of your letter spam depends on your keyboard layout.

    Yup. The other day, a friend messaged me “asd” over steam to indicate he was online and ready to play something. I responded in kind, but he thought I was suggesting we play Age of Empires instead of our usual Project Zomboid.

    Ashtear , to games in Where do you find new games nowadays? (Both singleplayer + multiplayer)

    The bulk of my finds come from chat either on Lemmy communities (!jrpg, !patientgamers, or this one) or a couple Discord servers I’m on. Sometimes a game will catch my eye unexpectedly while I’m on OpenCritic looking up something else, too.

    Otherwise it’s generally gaming news. I get that from also Lemmy/Discord, my RSS feed, or showcases. I always end up wishlisting half a dozen games during the summer showcases. My RSS feed right now is DualShockers, Eurogamer, Gematsu, PCGamer, Rock Paper Shotgun, Siliconera, and Denfaminicogamer (Japanese site). Always open to more suggestions for the feed; the problem is not everyone does RSS these days.

    neidu2 , to nostupidquestions in Do you agree with my unpopular opinion about height in rapier fencing?

    I’m just unsure how tall fencers are different than tall basketball players or height jumpers

    BassTurd ,

    Neither tall basketball players or high jumpers actively have someone actively trying to stab them in their larger mass sections. It would be better to compare with baseball where the strike zone can change depending on height. There are some good pictures of Jose Altuve standing next to Aaron judge in the MLB. Basically, tall people have a larger attack vector, and that doesn’t apply in the two sports you mentioned, where more height definitely carries significantly more advantages than disadvantages.
