There have been multiple accounts created with the sole purpose of posting advertisement posts or replies containing unsolicited advertising.

Accounts which solely post advertisements, or persistently post them may be terminated.

Most servers already seem to have Patreons or similar donation platforms running, and subscriptions would not surprise me as everyone starts to settle into this thing. It would make a lot of sense to help spread the load and since content wouldn’t be gated behind the subscription, I can’t see why it would be bad.

I think I have similar thoughts on ads. If an instance wants to run ads to support itself, I don’t see an issue as long as those ads aren’t “federated” out and sent to other places.

I think the ability to have all of these different setups, without restricting any access to content, is the beauty of the fediverse. At least as I understand it.

That is a great point about federating ads. I’m quite sure that would make other instances consider blocking or defederating other instances.

Once Musk took over Twitter, and he opened his day with firing half his staff, we kinda knew he was going to enshittify Twitter into irrelevance. Now we’re watching as the world catches up and seeks alternative platforms for general announcements.

Tired today after a returning from a long trip and immediately having to replace my dead home networking equipment as apparently the telephone pole outside my house was struck by lightning while I was away.

I’ve been weighing the logistics of running an official Cardano instance that also runs a Cardano Stake Pool.

MECM and rolling reboots? Time how long it takes normally, then use at least 1.5x that time, or as long as you can.

What’s the reason for the ordered reboots? Sounds like you need to review your architecture for better availability.

BEEKAYRANDEE ,

Exactly this. MECM even has this sort of feature built-in with Orchestration Groups. You can set group 1 to perform updates and reboot at a certain time, then group 2 will only begin its update/reboot cycle when group 1 has completed or crossed a certain threshold.

Fêtes!

We had the school one yesterday and are going to the local town one today, hopefully the weather holds out and the things that are there aren’t shit 🤞

Delightful! I might have to pop into town and see if anything is on. I think there might be a book faire today

I miss:

r/abrathatfits - those folks took it to 11 for helping people find the best fitting bras - no matter your shape, size or orientation.

r/makeupaddiction - as someone who constantly feels like they’re putting on greasepaint and not makeup, the sub was great for helping people get their cosmetics game on

r/skincareaddiction. - a great sub for anyone struggling with skin issues

r/haircarescience - another great sub to help people with all their hair struggles

r/loseit, r/cico, r/1200isplenty, and the more discrete offshoots - great for helping me structure dietary goals.

r/hysterectomy, r/diabetes - because support groups matter (and I didn’t find the Hystersisters very supportive when I first went there, years ago).

r/volumeeating, r/eatcheaply and healthfully - lovely food “hacks”

r/criticalrole (I do hope that we regenerate with Lemmy.world as I believe there is a community of Critters there).

r/aquariums - I used to have an aquarium when I was younger. I always wanted one as an adult, but I have to suffice by living vicariously through other enthusiasts.

r/superbowls - because: owls and because it’s fun to watch the American football enthusiasts get “lost" in January.

There are others (I subscribed to almost 250 subreddits), but I can’t remember them off-hand.
