How do you find relevant technical information online?
Search engines have been dropping in quality significantly within the past decade, and especially within this past year. The noise to signal ratio has been frankly painful....
People on Mastodon...are there a lot of users who just spam stars and boosts like mad to get followers? Some posts seem to get a ton of instant, rapid interaction even though I only have 13 followers
Do some people think rapping is a permutation of raping, subtly adding to the edge factor of this music genre and making it less likely older people will take to it than younger people who don't know
This is not a joke question. I am being 100% sincere when I suggest the similarity between the words might be seen as intentional by some very conservative minds.
Restore Thunderbird's previous look
Thunderbird 115 introduced a new look. I hate it. Not only does it no longer fit in with KDE Plasma, it lost functionality due to it’s new integrated search bar in the title bar....
Good software for batch audio file conversion.
I’ve been using JDownloads2 to download from YouTube Music. But my car stereo only supports mp3 so have to convert the files. Any suggestion for good audio converter that works in large batches? I’ve looked, and maybe my google fu sucks, but can’t see a way to force JDownloads to do MP3, it’s doing m4a.

Weekly low-hanging fruit thread #8
This thread is where all the takes from idiots (looking at you Armchair Warlord) and screenshots of twitter posts/youtube thumbnails go.

Is it detrimental to the Fediverse network to self host, for only oneself, a Federated service?
It seems that self hosting, for oneself, a federated service, like Lemmy, would only serve to increase the traffic in the network, and not actually serve the purpose of load balancing between servers....
What discontinued feature do you miss from phones or other technologies?
For me its the ‘Knock Code’ that LG had on their phones (I really wish LG still made at least the V series phones)...
Is there a legit way to download the videos I've bought on Prime Video?
I've only found TV rips of the series while sailing. Is there a way to download the videos?
Can someone help me identify this stretchy toy from the 90's and 00's?
Not sure what community to post this in so I’ll post it here....

Those with parents who hold opposite political views than you, how do you go about disagreeing?
To be more specific, my parents raised my siblings and me to “respect” them, saying "yes sir, and “no ma’am” to everything they said. Spankings, all of that. Typical super conservative evangelical parents. Before I learned better, I was that way too. I went to college and since then have embraced the left more and...
The hellsite
Why are people still on Twitter/X? I don’t get it. The X on the building reminds me of a certain other letter on buildings in a certain country. People must be mad to still be carrying on as usual on there.

YSK: To account for all calories when cooking
One of the biggest overlooks when it comes to cooking dinners or any involved meal with multiple ingredients is accounting for the calories each ingredient will take. Let’s say you’re cooking pasta and you want to include the sauce, some seasonings, some things to mix with the pasta .etc...
Is now the right time to switch to Linux?
Experience: I have a bit of experience with Linux. I started around 2008, distro-hopped weekly, decided on Debian until around 2011, when I switched to Windows as I started getting interested in gaming. Tried switching back around 2015, this time using Arch Linux for about a month, but had some bad experiences with gaming and...
Any closer to getting Linux on old iPads?
I know there was some project about this but haven’t heard of anything for a while. Ewaste is such a crime; all of my devices are used or older purchases that are past their “cool by” date. I have an iPad 2 and iPad mini that function perfectly but aren’t supported by apple anymore. Would love to get a second life for...
SBC with 2 SD card slots?
Hi, I’m looking for SBCs where I can run the OS on one storage device, and the applications on another. I believe a couple of Khadas boards have such features, but they also have some other peripherals that I don’t need. I want something like a LibreComputing potato but with the capability to have 2 storage devices (not...
