As the Fediverse grows more and more, rules and regulations become more important. For example, is Lemmy GDPR compliant? If not, are admins aware of the possible consequence? What does this mean for the growth of Lemmy?...
Hello, everyone. I have this problem where my external HDD doesn't get detected. On an old laptop with Windows 7, it gets detected, but it won't open. On Fedora, it doesn't even get detected on the whole system. In the KDE partition manager it does show up as "sdd", but it will not show up in Dolphin or in the terminal, when...
I use the MX Linux distribution (Debian-based) as my dual-boot. Recently, I’ve started building a new PC, the crux of which will be a Radeon RX 7900xtx GPU. Since it showed up before everything else, I crammed it into my current PC to replace a GTX970 to test and play around....
Assuming he doesn’t have a red phone line directly to Batman like in the old TV show, obviously.
The 6 nines mean that an ideal service should have 99,9999% uptime, right?...
My brother and I would like to have some sort of storage space in each others’ systems as an offsite backup thing. Ideally, I’d be able to allocate him 2GB of space that he can drop files in (e.g. a Veracrypt container, perhaps a keepass database, not media files). I don’t want him to be able to access anything else on my...

I really want to nip threads in the bud. Besides blocking threads.net itself, defederate from any instances that do not. This is blatantly an EEE strategy and a united front is the only way to save what have been accomplished. Here is how Indivudals can do it on mastodont as an example to follow. hachyderm.io/Edit found this ,...

Today I decided to get an inexpensive custom domain from Namecheap and try self-hosting Lemmy. A few bucks later I was thinking, “Hey, this is going to be cake.”...
Being an old grandpa not that adept at tech, I don’t know how Lemmy works. I mean, I know it’s decentralized and it’s supposed to be better than reddit, but still, how vulnerable is this platform from censors looking to block anything in here?...
It’s so funny seeing a large group (almost all) of the people in my feed being so excited about this new social media thing that they managed to get in through invitation on Instagram....
There’s one common criticism I agree with: de-aging Harrison Ford is not that convincing. In particular, he still sounds 80 years old, and they had to use CGI for some of his movements. 30 years after Jurassic Park, they still can’t animate a person jumping correctly....
When looking at a post in wefwef it shows upvote downvote and then a symbol like a flag (the save icon I assume) but I click it and nothing happens. Is there a way to save a post?

Isn’t this a very common phrase? Surely, someone already thought about this?
Obv I don't want to get too deep into privatisation weeds as we don't want to get into the dreaded (whispers) politics in this comm. But I'm interested to know if other people are noticing the postal service deteriorating....
I’ve created and account in programming.dev. When I search for a community, sometimes I don’t find in when I search in programming.dev but I find it in lemmy.world
