Selfhosting Location History

Hello, I’m looking for a good tool to selfhost some kind of location history similar to Google’s one. To have some data I can test the tools with, I merged every of my bicylce and hiking tours to one GPX file containing 7000km worth of travel. Then I tried this tool, but it really lags with so much data and every move and...

Any shows that I'm missing?

Me and my SO find ourselves more often than not just browsing through what’s available on various services but not feeling like we find anything we want to watch. I don’t think it’s necessary to list what we’ve watched because almost all of the big things we have already watched. So I’m looking for some diamonds in the...

New mod team

Hey guys! My name is cod, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know there’s a change in the mod team now. As you probably know, the creator of this community decided to leave and made a post asking if anyone would be interested in taking over. Long story short, I got the gig, as did another member by the name of...

How do server upkeep costs look like for fediverse stuff?

I’m pretty new to the fediverse, and I find the idea amazing. But one thing concerns me though. How will server owners be able to afford to run servers with massive amounts of data coming through them? Theoretically speaking, if a Reddit migration were to happen how would server upkeep costs look like?

How is a company like Reddit “not profitable” yet?

Beyond spez (and the fact that he is a greedy little pig boy), I’m curious about the corporate dynamics that prevent a company like Reddit from being profitable. From an outside perspective, they make hundreds of millions per year via advertising, their product is a relatively simple (compared to industries that need a lot of...

YSK: Deer and rabbits "park" their babies and spend most of the day away from them. If you find a baby all alone, it is almost definitely not abandoned.

Why YSK: DON’T bring it somewhere to ‘save’ it unless it’s in immediate danger - you’re probably just kidnapping it from its mom. People find baby deer or rabbits with no parents nearby and think they’re abandoned, so they bring them to shelters to try to “save them”. In reality they’re just forcibly separating...

YSK - X percent of Y is equal to Y percent of X. So, if you want to find out what 7% of 50 is, you could instead find out what 50% of 7 is, which is 3.5. This means that 7% of 50 is also equal to 3.5.

Why YSK: It helps when calculating percentages. If you want to find out what 2% of 20 is, do 20% of 2 instead and you’ll get 0.4. So, 2% of 20 also equals 0.4....

how do I find content/communities

Hello Lemmings (I have no idea what Lemmy users are called) I’m a reddit migrator. I’m still a little confused, but I’d like to learn. How do I find communities? If I want to discuss Warhammer or Steam games, or something like that, what’s the best way to find that content? If it matters I am on the phone app.
