To Lukoil, of course.

Not Gazprom, those wankers. Lukoil. Beacon of . . y'know . . freedom or some shit. When the state-managed privately-run petroleum conglomerate buys your country's main search engine, you know it's a bad day.

They've admitted it a lot. Where are you getting that disinformation?

Well trying to find an actual statement is more difficult than I remember, but that could partially be due to Google ongoing enshittification. I did find this in a TIME article about the "IBM and the Holocaust" book from 2001:

Of course, not everyone agrees with Seltzer's assessment — least of all IBM. Last week, the company released a statement: "If this book points to new and verifiable information that advances understanding of this tragic era, IBM will examine it and ask that appropriate scholars do the same." But company spokespeople insist that Black's allegations are not new, that historians have long been aware that the Nazis used IBM's tabulating machines. And, spokespeople insist, the company is paying for its mistakes: IBM Germany, formerly Dehomag, has already paid into Germany's government-sponsored initiative to compensate citizens forced to work for the Nazis.

I thought there was a lot more public acknowledgement though, and it's hard to find. So - 50%?

IBM, also one of X’s biggest advertisers, announced it would stop advertising on X Thursday. The company made the decision in response to a report by liberal watchdog Media Matters that found both IBM and Apple’s ads running alongside hate speech. Musk called Media Matters an “evil organization” in response.

Whoever's job it is to keep a dart gun trained on him, you might want to make sure it's loaded. Dude's crackin'.

Totally agree that huge social media systems need to be understood as disproportionately affecting misinformation. I don't know anything about Telegram, though.

Are the pushback people fReEzE PeAChErs or something? Is Telegram just lovely? Dunno.

Two of these are not being pulverized by a nuclear power at the moment.

Zelenskyy implores world leaders to stick with fight against Russia (www.nbcnews.com)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appeared somber and, at times, angry in a blistering address to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, as he sought to shore up support for his country’s war effort and demand that Russia be punished for the invasion....

russia lost on day 4. The rest of this is to see how badly and in what ways. And to save as many Ukrainian lives and civic institutions as possible. Zelenskyy is focused on the latter, lives and infrastructure, as he should be. Slava Ukraini!

It's an interesting twist. Sherlock seems designed to use legal data collection and digital advertising technologies — beloved by Big Tech and online media — to target people for government-level espionage. Other spyware, such as NSO Group's Pegasus or Cytrox's Predator and Alien, tends to be more precisely targeted.

So . . . It’s just “digital customer engagement” and all the other euphemisms for online stalking, it’s just that the intent is pre-stated to be nefarious. Hm.

Whole Foods argues it can ban BLM masks because the Supreme Court let a Christian business owner refuse same-sex couples (fortune.com)

Amazon.com’s Whole Foods Market doesn’t want to be forced to let workers wear “Black Lives Matter” masks and is pointing to the recent US Supreme Court ruling permitting a business owner to refuse services to same-sex couples to get federal regulators to back off....

Does anyone know of any kid-friendly "horror" games out there for children ~7 years old?

My son loves the adrenaline rush of getting scared, particularly with jump scares, however, I have a lot of difficulty finding a game or show which is appropriate for him. He is prone to nightmares, and more adult-oriented “kid horror” is too much (Poppy’s Playtime, Cartoon Cat?) And others like Siren Head. His peers...

Anger in Sweden as Nobel Prize organizers invite Russia and Belarus to the award ceremonies. (news.yahoo.com)

This is getting posted a lot which is too bad because it’s worse than useless.

Do people not understand how technically useless 80% of users are? They CAN NOT REMEMBER THEIR PASSWORDS. (No, they didn’t write them down. Password management software? lol.)

I’m saying the height of their technical ability is to remember their password. And we want them to switch platforms, away from a fascist right-wing brainwashing troll factory to- what is it called again?

Yeah. It needs a guide with this title, but actually useful. Well-written, with the context that people reading it are already well above and beyond in making an effort.

Why are so many people still on Xitter? I have a fucking idea.

I think it’d be much more lopsided if corporate news wasn’t such a disgusting insult to an informed populace. They still refuse to call him a liar, or note that he was found guilty of sexual assault. Much less point out that he used russian intelligence to violate the DNC and federal election law. Or that he obstructed justice by firing Comey, intimidated any number of witnesses, and oh yeah is utterly incompetent to handle that position.

I hate Wired as much as the next Zippie, but they’re just passing on the info here. And what plastics are microwave safe?

Boland disagrees: “I don’t believe that there are microwave-safe plastics.” Trasand and Enck agree that while independent studies should continue testing how much plastic is being released from food packaging, there is already enough evidence to show that “microwave-safe plastic” isn’t really safe. “I think the FDA needs to tell companies that they can no longer say any plastic is microwavable,” says Enck.

The warrant also recounted how witnesses and co-workers informed investigators that the engineer had allegedly “sold radios and radio equipment, worked odd hours, was arrogant, frequently lied, displayed inappropriate workplace behavior and sexual harassment, had financial problems, and possessed [Arnold air force base land mobile radio] equipment”.

. . . Investigators also reported to have found evidence which indicated that the searched contractor had possible access to FBI communications, as well as Tennessee state agencies, Forbes reported. The FBI is working alongside the air force on the investigation, according to the outlet.

. . . The Forbes report comes only three months after one of the worst leaks in US intelligence in over a decade. In that case, 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, an air national guardsman at the time, was arrested on suspicion of leaking hundreds of Pentagon documents.

He has since been charged under the Espionage Act.
